Horse lying down when ridden!!!

I heard of a similar situation when the owners contacted the farrier and told him there must be something wrong with the shoes as the horse kept falling over. They wouldnt turn the horse away either! A western saddle is terribly heavy even for a mature horse. Any chance of getting them to use a wintec if they insist on riding it so young? And getting the rider to go on a diet?? Basically if they insist on riding it, it must be with minimal weight. Try explaining about balance too, that the baby cant balance itself, and if the rider also cannot balance themself, its an accident waiting to happen, either to the rider or the horse. Maybe scaring them would work. Good luck. How horrible to have to be round idiots!

DIY livery yards are hard i think. especially when i have been at the yard longer than the owner!! and around horses for longer but any suggestions on a sort of compromise between horse and rider are good. rider has been reading about parelli and wants to try some of the ground work so hopefully that will keep her occupied and not on the back for a while. horse seemed to really respond. is it common for babies to refuse to lunge one way?? think the horse is confused and just needs the basics gone through again. Also to lunge with the saddle (western) on or not? i don't think she can bend through her spine with it on. Any ideas??

Lunging's pretty hard too... I've been told not to lunge my horse often, as he has weak hips..

Like I said, the only thing I could recommend is to turn it out for a year. A horse at our yard was broken at 3 years (pretty okay age for breaking UNLIKE two years), he was really babyish and would rear if he didn't understand, and napped constantly. Eventually the owner turned him away, and he came back a few days after his fourth birthday a completely different horse! He looked much more mature, and was soo quiet and easy to rebreak, he really tried to understand what the handler wanted instead of panicing.
