Honestly, I'm not bored, really

I was just reading about Claire's little Rainbow and got to thinking about names and how many things horses are named after, so.................

a trivial poll for you.

My girls names are simple - Tilly & Ella
The boys are Mishky - he is Russian and this is a variation of Michael. Then there is Ljufur fra Bjarnahofn
ooo.gif
! He is Icelandic - Ljufur means beloved, fra is from and Bjarnahofn is the place where he was born. We call him Loofy!

My boy came with the name Sicco (from dutchland

) but it apparently means Psyco (sp) in Czech

His registered WPCS name is Dyffryntanat Courage, which I'm told means Tanat Valley (the place where the stud is). The second part, Courage, is from a friend of the breeder who died of a brain tumour around the same time my boy was born.

His pet name is Rhyn, which came from the Dyffryn bit and somehow acquired a "h" along the way,.

I have James, so there's the christian name one and then i had to vote inanimate object for Muffin, and as I've never thought of it in that way its suddenly struck me as quite funny that she is named after a fluffy looking cake!!!!

bracken is type of plant!!....i never chose that name it came with her!!...i named her foal Coco! had 101 other names before and none suited her! some one mentioned perfum i said i aint call her 'cool waters'!! so thought of other perfums i like and coco chanel came to mind so we had coco!!..only name that really suited her!!

Ty's name was originally Thai when I brought him - not sure why really! his showname (parkranger) comes from when he galloped around a park once without me being chased by a boxer dog....

coco was nearly independence or indy for short!! but she was born on 5th july!!!......still convinced that bracken should have foaled on 4th but horses from next door escaped in to her field on the 3rd late at night and i found them the next mornin, bracken held of foalin till 7.30am on the 5th!!!

I have one named after a food.... Tortilla.
The other two which don't fit into any of your categories are Outrageous and Bamboozled.
I also have Cybele, which is something in French....

Just googled Cybele, and Wikipedia tells me thats it's actually greek! .... "Cybele embodies the fertile earth, a goddess of caverns and mountains, walls and fortresses, nature, wild animals (especially lions and bees)."

Cadog cos he is Welsh and Cadog means King in welsh
Sunbeam cos he is palomino
Rosie cos her proper name is Roseberry Rose

They all came with their names

i wikipedia bracken even though i know itsa plant!............she has loads of uses the best one being used to brew beer!!!!..think everyone should type there horses names into wikipedia and see what they get back!!

One of mine Falco is named after the racing snail from Never Ending story and his registered name is The Racing Snail. Another's stable name is Pongo but his TB racing name was Eudyptes which is a common penguin. His father was Rockhopper

I'm guessing Chequers comes from the game, not really sure (I didn't name him). I'm told he was previously called Mintrel, after the black/white minstrel people I guess! I like random names for horses

a friend bought a foreign showjumper called Jesus, but pronounced like herseus (ish) he got really fed up by constantly having it announced as Jesus

I used to name all my horses after film characters and in fact PF used to be Starling

(Silence of the Lambs)
Nobody out here could say it though and the PapaFrita is the closest anyone could get to her Wetherby's name which is *cough cough* Charlie Big Potato
