horse names getting more odd ?

I have an Arab called Roe Arabi the stud staff just never got round to giving him a stable name they said he just suited being just "Arabi" so thats what his always been.
 
I used to know a horse called Stretch..., because he liked to stretch. There was also a horse called Barbie, but the head girl could never bring herself to say that and instead called the horse Barbra. There was a John and Mary and Brian. And the strangest, BB, short for Bantry Bay. Why would anyone call a horse Bantry Bay? He was a lovely horse.
 
I don't think weird names are anything new! If you trundle through the TB lines on allpedigree, you eventually arrive at a 17th-century horse named "Seasick". How unfortunate is that? :p

There's a certain German event horse that won the individual YR championship at Blair in 2011, named "Oje Oje". The announcer kept pronouncing it "Oh-jay Oh-jay", rather than "o-YAY o-YAY", which meant that I had to see it written before I realised that the horse is named the German equivalent of saying "Oh dear, oh dear!" or "oh no, oh no!", as in an expression of utter dismay... :D
 
I'm all for horses with fancy names! I love it :D

But I have known a Licky, Filly, Foot and Toe! Though I think Toe was renamed.
I also saw a racehorse called Gay Lord...it was quite a while ago, but with the modern meaning...
 
I had a TB event mate who was originally passported as Witchita and was called Witch on the yard. She smashed my foot into many pieces and I now have a pinned foot to remember her by......
I know of a horse called Nigel.
 
I don't think they are getting any weirder - I knew a Spoof more than 40 years ago, a Pompadour about the same time and a Bluejeans a bit later.

My horse was called Blob when I bought him a couple of years ago...
 
Going to get abuse now but I personally hate the name Bob the Cob, why on earth is every second cob called bob
I am not a fan of human names for animals although babies now a days seem to take on animal names so why not the other way round

Ha ha - guilty! But, as above, he was called Blob when I got him so I wanted something similar and had already walked away from a horse called Rob. His registered name ends with Scotty and I could not call a plain cob after a black terrier...
I am not a fan of human names for animals either but have ended up with two over the years - Ol and Bob. The one in the middle was called Visa which I also disliked and shortened to Vee.
 
Breeders took so long to name the new welsh a foal that I was caring for on livery that 'lil fella' kinda stuck as id spent 6 months chattering away to him as I groomed and worked and he was often turned in the arena with his dam so I just kept calling come on now lil fella, theres a lil fella, and the such like lol did suit him being so tiny and me so tall
 
I have a Fae, Ella and a Gracie(Stable names). For those who don't like human names for horses :P. Gracie was Marjie when she came to me but I felt silly shouting Marge to my 2yo filly! Her real name is Gerwica Van De Hermitage. I don't know how it is said!
 
Think my personal favourite is 'cigarette' who was somewhat famous back in his day! In terms of show names 'Mitzi's Secret Bubble' is the worst I've found. My friend does own a gelding called Gertrude which I'm not keen on...
