How did you get him insured? I have just started with a new loan horse and my insurance wanted a full clinical history as he wasn't being vetted and I wanted cover for vets fees?

Thanks everyone. Hearing it from others helps.

Lady Jane: although he was insured, I didnt have any vet history for him so it was probably money down the drain looking back as I wouldn't have been able to prove it wasnt a known issue very easily. I didnt spend much more than the excess so it's not a huge financial loss by any means. I'd dig a lot deeper if it meant he came sound again!
Edit to add: get the owner to get the vet history for you or get the owner to insure and you pay the premiums

Ask his owner for the history. What insurance company is that with?

They ask when you claim. And they look at vaccinations to trace any vets you neglect to tell them about as well.

Yes this is what happened to me. I was with Petplan and all I needed to start cover was a signed loan agreement from the owner, they didnt ask for any history.

They asked me for vaccination record and history while I had owned him. They paid my vet bill and paid out when he was pts. Did not ask for any earlier history.
