When showjumping mY Horse gets over excited and lieks to gallop off and rush resulting in polees getting knocked and thee full check fulmer was pants as its too light she needs somethink harder but with somethink to help strearin as her stearing bad

i was maybe thinking pelham with double reins
PLEASE no snaffles there Farr no light shes too strong shes a bit pushy horse so a snaffle is like no bit?
maybe bitless? or would that be worse? lol
i do have light hands and NEVERRR pull hard or yannk!!! < NEVER i promise lol

yes thats the problem its when she see the fences she goes strong and excited
flatwork shes relaxed and listens ::S

It sounds like you are getting over excited like your horse and need to breathe. What on earth do they teach kids in school these days? Your post is barely understandable. Please try to reconstruct it legibly, then you might get more answers.

(Not being horrible here, but unless you can make yourself understood in your own language, what hope is there for you/the youngsters of today?)

Maybe you should change instructor? I used to have an instructor who was all into her gadgets and strong bits, mainly because she was impatient and wanted to see quick fix results at the end of my lesson. I quickly changed and now with a more helpful instructor my horse works in a plain snaffle with no martingales, flash straps etc.

Not meaning to be rude, but from the jumping videos I have seen you and your horse need to go back to basics. It is not all about speed and height. I used to be a speed jumping demon when I was younger but as I have learnt more from my instructor I have come to realize that flatwork and control results in better jumping than speed any day.

If you don't want people to take the mick, then I've learned a fair few things that help over time (mm, I've been playing on forums like this since I was about 13, am now 16 - that's only 2yrs age difference btw - and school was always 'fun')

- Think first, then put your thoughts into words, think about them again, then press enter! Tis easy to make thoughtless comments that make your intentions come accross incorrectly.
- Yup, I know some people find spelling hard, but typing things up quickly in a word processer (ie. MS word) first can solve that, and people will take a post where 90% of the words are spelt correctly far more seriously
- Try to do a bit of research first. There are loads of lovely bit books, online guides etc that can help! Then at least when you ask questions, you understand the answers :)

Loads of people on here ARE really helpful, but you just have to look carefully to see it! :p I love helping people out, but like to think the words don't just go in one ear, out the other ;)
We all like a laugh now and then too :D

A lot of us had had horses like this at one point. I did and I jumped him in a happy mouth snaffle. Often with the excitable whizzy ones putting a stronger bit in means you can hold them maybe in the approach (although you kill the rythm) and then the explode 2 strides out. You're no better off.

You need to do LOADS of exercises. We'll have to take your work that your flatwork is good. Can you canter over and course of pole on the ground not raised? If you put a small X pole at E and B and canter a 20m circle over it concentrating on keeping the same speed and rhythm? I'm an instructor and THIS is the sort of thing I'd be doing with you. Not just putting a stronger bit in.

If your instructor isn't doing that sort of exercise and is just putting you over courses, I'd change instructot.

Now you post on here for ADVICE from people who are OLDER and MORE experianced than yourself , and then you DON'T take it, or seem not too. What do you expect?

I've had my horse since I was 12, it has always been drilled into me that flatwork is the key for any disipline. Any GOOD instructor or coach will tell and teach you that. Any good instructor will tell you to do mroe flatwork than put in a stronger bit to start with, my opinion is get a new instructor.

If you want advice from someone - Call PJ at Bitworld or Heather Hyde at Neue Schule. Both really know their stuff, and you might find it easier to explain to them on the phone rather than via written word.

Also, why not ask which trainers other people use?

Strong bits are NOT always the answer, sometimes they are, in conjunction with ALOT of schooling.

OMG are they for real???? I think I must live in a different world as I have never come across a horse that I'd want to use those on. Sorry for seeming naive, just didn't know these existed!

Both real, have used both too :) The Mikmar is incredibly light, as in weight, and both have their place for use with experienced riders ;)

Off topic but yeah some school start GCSE's at 14, as I did means you can spread two years worth of work over 3, means more likely you can get GCSE's earlier. Students apparently do better this way.

because we all usee the same instustor and my mate was told to try a 3 ring gag by the instustor and now there doing amaizng :) soo.... :/

But an instructor will not suit ALL riders and ALL horses. You need to find someone that will work through your problems with you.

Please take the advice given - a lot of these people really do KNOW what they're talking about!

to be fair to OP it isn't uncommon to take 1/2 GCSE courses early.

OP I just think you need to learn how to word your posts, as this would help a lot. Also if you think you know what you want to do and don't believe in other things don't ask for advise just to disagree with it. Just talk to your instructor, its far easier that way.

Don't get stressed over people advice, take it with a 'pinch of salt' so to speak. Alot of us seems fustrated I think. as we have taken the time to offer advice and seems to be put to one side.

Do as you wish to be honest, but remember why you posted here inthe first place.

But that might not work for your horse. That is pretty much the whole point of this thead.
Just because a stong bit works for them doesn't mean it will work for you and people are giving you the advise of working on your flat
The fact that everyone is saying the same thing should give you the idea that it works!
