There's a woman in our area who makes big of the fact that she rescues unwanted horses who otherwise will be PTS. She has about 8 at the moment. Anyway, my friend has had a Section A off her as a companion for her own horse. The poor creature is the most neglected looking thing I've ever seen, you can visibly count his ribs, and my friend got the vet out. Vet said his mouth was horrific and hence why he was so emaciated.
Yesterday, EDT came and the poor creature! His mouth was just foul. He had four teeth removed - you cannot believe the stench from the decay - lots of hooks and ramps filed, and he needs another 4 out but obviously it was all too much for him in one session.
He'd been at his previous "rescue" home for a year - what kind of a rescue was that????? It's all very well throwing him into a field and throwing him hay, none of which he can actually properly eat, but frankly he's gone from one poor home to another! And this woman has the audacity to criticise just about every horse owner in the area (me included, for overworking my PRE who is ridden 5 days a week and still has a belly!!) - even though they are all actually very caring owners with good looking and well kept horses.
I'm afraid I see it as pure self indulgence, some of these so - called rescuers, because it makes them feel good even though they're not doing the job properly. Sorry - rant over!
