Thanks to everyone who responded to my last post about my new horse not settling in to his new home very well.

He is doing a bit better, although he really stresses when he gets brought in at night. He has really taken to two ponies who are next to him in the stable block and in the field. Whenever he gets brought away from them he turns into a beast. He plants himself to try and remain in the field. He tries to get past you in the stable before you have shut the door (he did make a bid for freedom earlier this week and succedeed all be it temporarily until I caught him again!). Then once you have managed to get out of the whirling stable of death he box walks, shouts, and throws himself at the stable door until his buddies arrive. He has only been with us 5 days, but you would have thought he would have learnt that the ponies are never far behind him! All this aside, he is much quicker to calm down now and once his is calm he is a pleasure in the stable. Easy to change rug, pick feet etc. He is also really chilled in the field now. So at least we've made progress!!!

Excellent news on the progress!

Give him time and be patient - I'm sure he'll come good.

Glad youve made progress. It takes some horses months to settle, so as long as you make a bit of progress then i wouldnt worry too much.

Mine was exactly the same when I first got him! I was to scared to leave him in the box once he started to fling himself around incase he damaged himself or the box !

My friend had loaded her 2 horses into the trailer to go to x country on sunday and as she checked her mirror leaving the yard my boy had jumped the fence and was following her !! As she was in a hurry she just chucked him in his stable with some hay......I met her at the show and she told me what had happened and I spent the rest of the mornign in a total panic about what he would be upto ??? Anyway got back to the yard and there he was in his stable munching away at his hay and not a care in the world.

I think some times they just look to you for reassurance and they can tell if your worried about them!
