after loosing recently an old friend i have started to look for the next one in a long line of horses, not in a rush but as the last time i bought for myself it was over 17 yrs ago i have been looking to get a reality check of the market..............everything i see which appears in print and in photo ok, is either the top end of Scotland or kent or the isle of white.

also a plea to people considering selling this year can we have a couple of basic side on pics and front and back, not just over the stable door or lying down! also something in the picture for us to relate the height to would be good, this save our time and yours.

i don't tend to have a type, as in it has to be bay, must be a gelding out of this breeding etc etc. But look at each horse as an individual as nothing is perfect, go for personality and conformation together as this is for me a long term partnership.

musing of the horse i am after i know i am looking in the most wanted type..........height range looking at around 16hh, MW mare/gelding age 3+, like breaking but wondering to get an older one and just have more fun and by pass the baby steps!

aspirations, i think it is time to admit the likely hood of pinging round Burghley is in the reality of me on a pair of legs and a bottle of lemonade like last year, but the potential for dressage and xc up to 90/100 as i believe having fun goals to get to are good.

this is early days but one thought i have is going to Ireland as i do have a hankering of an IDx pref with connie, so i thought i would pick your brains. do you have any suggestions of people places to contact, PM if you wish.

sorry for the waffle

Chris Ryan is a good contact to have. He is based in Scarteen in Limerick. He's very knowledgeable and straightforward to deal with. He's very involved with Eventing Ireland. He breeds and produces event horses but he also has a lot of knowledge and contacts for leisure horses. He knows every breeder and producer in Ireland. (I'm not exaggerating, be warned, he also talks a lot;) )

He's one of the founding members of the Traditional Irish Horse Association which develops traditional Irish bred horses. They define these as IDxTB and Connie x TB and Connie X ID. So these people are ideal for what you want as there's no warmblood blood in these horses.

His number is 00353 62 53195
or 00353 877682732.

thanks mule will have a look, hoping to keep away from the warm bloods, but knowing me every time i went out with i don't really want list i end up with one.

Why don't you come over for the sales? 100's and 100's of horses, mostly young and all sorts to choose from. Horses in the two biggest sales - Cavan and Goresbridge; sales dates are there and catalogues go up online - are all pre-vetted with the option to re-vet on the day, with trial facilities for ridden horses. The major horse transport companies are also there at the bigger sales, so getting purchases home is as easy as can be. If you go to the Cavan sales I'll come with you and hold your hand.

P.S. we all talk a lot :-)

True, but in a talking competition Chris would win hands down. At least he talks sense ;)

I found mine on done deal, was particularly looking for a smaller ID which I couldn't seem to find in England. I bought untried but vetting and transport were all super easy to arrange.
