My mare and another were slashed three years ago when out in their field in Dorset. My mare suffered the worse: her cut was 9" long and caused a massive internal infection which cost me over £1200 in vets fees and kept her at the vets for three weeks.
These things DO happen, the thing I found difficult was getting the police interested. They interviewed my YO but never spoke to me. Good luck all of you up there. I don't want anyone to go through what we did.
It's awful. I can't believe people can be so sick.
I'm terrified anything happens to my mare, who seems to fit their profile!
You can't watch them every second of the day...
I feel so vexed for the owners of the slashed horses...God knows how I would react...
The information in this opening post is WRONG. 3 of the yards named have NOT been attacked. I have contacted admin to have the opening post rectified.
Only ONE horse was destroyed, not two.
It is NOT PAGANS!! It has been confirmed by the police they are looking at a POSSIBILITY of cult activity, however are also investigating other areas.
My mare was one of the horses attacked and I am being kept fully up to date with the police and Animal Welfare of any new developments.
Whilst I appreciate that people are concerned about these slashings, making posts that are giving inaccurate information is just so wrong. Has anyone ever thought that some yards do not want to be named? There is no Denims livery yards in Bonnybridge. Hayfield Riding School has NOT suffered any attacks!
People making posts when all they have is second hand information is scaremongering.
Yes attacks took place, yes it's awful to have to live with the kowledge some lunatic has done this to defenceless animals but it is NOT helpful that people who clearly know nothing but second hand information (and information that is inaccurate) are making posts like this.
Four horses were attacked. All were in fields nearby to each other. They were all damaged in different ways:-
One had been destroyed in the weeks before the other attacks.
One had it's genitals mutilated.
One was slashed across the back hocks and had a splint bone broken - there was no "kickers" in the field that could have caused this injury - the cuts were deep and clean. There was no barbed wire either, or stones that may have caused it.
One was slashed across the top of the hock and had puncture wounds to the inside of it's leg.
There is a field full of bloodbank horses in the area - if these attacks had been for blood for any reason then a fresh supply was available.....
I have read various newspaper reports this week with various people from Riding Clubs giving statements that were inaccurate. Only four of the quotes I have read this week are accurate - two from two of the yard owners concerned, one from the Police and one from myself. Why other people are commenting to the press when they clearly have no idea of the facts I have no idea.
It's been a hard enough week having my horse in the vet school (she's still in by the way), without reading rubbish in the papers, having reporters turn up at my door (I wish I could find out who gave them my address), and unhelpful and inaccurate comments posted on various forums.
I have not heard of any more attacks since.
Also, there was a local show coming up on the Sunday of the week these horses were attacked. Three of the horses were entering..... take from that what you will.
At this moment in time I have no idea if my horse will be able to be ridden again - when they cut her back left hock they cut her through to the bone and caught her ligament on the way in.
I have been through every available scenario as to why this happened and how it happened and still cannot make any sense of it all - I've come to the decision I never will.
I was away from riding for many years and only bought my wonderful baby in October last year. After waiting years for my dream of owning a horse again someone comes along and does this! One things for sure, no matter what is thrown at us now, she'll be with me till her dying day - we've come this far, she's proved she's a fighter to get through the last week and hopefully now we can start the long road to recovery for her.
Please don't listen to third party information. Anyone's welcome to PM me if they want to know anything.
Lily, I am truly sorry that this has happened to your horse and I aplogise again for my knee-jerk reaction in copying and pasting information. You are right, I was out of line and I do feel bad.
I do also hope that your horse makes a full recovery and that you are able to get back to riding soon.
It's such a worry with all these crazy people out there.
I really do hope that it hasn't been a personal attack on the horses involved. A random attack from a nutter is bad enough.
I hope the press will give you peace soon.
As a 'pagan' myself, Im concerned that these horrific attacks are being linked to the pagan community. Its so easy to get carried away and jump on the bandwagon. Just look at the EE horse thefts that are worrying us all.
I for one, cannot imagine what you are going through, Lily: enormous hugs to you, your mare and the others involved.
I've just spoken to the police and unfortunately, there was another attack on another horse in the Denny area on Friday night. Again, it has cuts to the back legs.
I'm actually horrified that the papers are using "Pagan" aswell Mister J. Personally I don;t think it's anything to do with summer solstace or anything like that. I firmly believe it's a nutter/s out to simply hurt horses.
Thanks for the hugs by the way - their greatly appreciated
I am so sorry to hear that you and your girl are suffering. When it happened to mine I was terrified that she would be emotionally damaged too. Thankfully she hasn't been. Her showing days are over as she has been left with a scar that is about three inches long between her hamstring muscles which is above her skin like a risen bubble, hence putting her into foal.
She has gone on to win in the ring but not at the level she was destined for. Also, due to a history of back problems she wasn't insured as she had basically become uninsureable. Lily, if you want to discuss anything please feel free to PM.
What a dreadful situation, for all involved. Re the pagan thing, there are always people who will hide behind any religeon or grouping to defend their bad behaviour.
Oh Lily - I'm so sorry to hear about what has happened to your poor horse!! I really cannot understand people inflicting such senseless grief upon any animal - I really hope that whoever did this is brought to justice. Although having read the article on those 2 men who attacked a horse with a meatcleaver on here a couple of days ago and were released after serving only 8 weeks - I wonder what on earth is the justice system playing at?? Sending lots of speedy recovery wishes for your horse!!!
Hi how is your horse doing?Have been thinking about her and the other injured horses since I read of these horrific attacks.Really hope they are all recovering.Lots of respect to you for keeping your head when most of us would be emotional wrecks and some using such a sad situation to be dramatic and seek attention(why people do that I don't understand),you're right when you say that hearsay and second hand information doesn't help any situtation, only factual information will help protect other horses, if at all possible.Look forward to good news about your mare.
She's doing ok at the moment thanks. I've heard of another 2 incidents today, but can't confirm as yet as I'm still awaiting confirmation from the Police (I tend not to say anything until I know it's true). There's so many rumours at the moment it's unreal up here. As for an emotional wreck - oh I am! I'm just lucky my OH is so supportive and jollies me along most of the time. A lovely person from this forum sent me a very much appreciated PM and as she says there's no point in me sitting fretting about the why's and the if only's of the situation. I just need to get my girl well again and at the end of it all the bond I shared with my girl before will only be made much stronger. Got the vet coming tomorrow for the first time since she got out the vet school to change her dressings........my heart is in my mouth at the thought of it all - but I'm telling myself I'll cope with seeing what these horrible people have done to my girl. I just wish they'd get caught!
I'm so sorry for you and your mare, i really hope your girl makes a full recovery! I have a livery yard down in North Ayrshire and on Sunday a yard just over 5 moinutes from us was unfortunatley targetted leaving two horses (mare and gelding) with slash wounds. Then on Wednesday a horse in Glasgow was attacked. I don't know the details of the yard in glasgow but unfortunatley one of the horses slashed close to me was a friends gelding so she gave me quite a lot of information on the attack at her yard.
The police have been round many yards in the area and i dont know what your take on this but the police woman told us that it could be anything, a trend, a pervert anything really but when they aren't sure they "tend to go with the occult" (whatever that was supposed to mean?). All yards have been told to be on high alert for the summer saltice asd the people may go all the way and kill a horse. I know summer salstice is a pagan celebration but it isnt the first time a religion has taken a pagan celebration and used it as there own....Christmas.
I was just wondering what your take on the whole occult/satanic ritual thing was as my friend said there was a lot of blood but then you here from the police and other sources that it may be for some sort of ritual?
Cheers,
Morven
One of my friends had her horses, ponies and a foal slashed last year. That was 4 horses. The only one that wasn't injured was the one normally hard to catch.
The foal survived but his mother didn't. The TB's weren't too bad as they'd had rugs on.
Each was cut around the upper forearm, the vets think using a stanley knife as the cuts were precise but not deep.
The Police weren't interested as all the horses were then let out onto the road, so as far as they were concerned it was just a case of escaping horses.
What puzzles me is why do the horses just stand long enough to be sliced like this?
In this case it wasn't just a random slashing. It was a precise cutting around the muscle very neatly. The little mare that died had one whole circumference of her leg cut and the beginnings of the next leg. She died because the skin 'fell down' around her knee and subsequently died.
It's cases like this and ones where the genitals are cut that makes people think that there is a 'ritual' to it.
As I've said before, I, my OH and a lot of my friends are pagan/occultists (for want of a better description). All of us have horses, dogs, cats etc, and some are involved with animal charities.
The sick b******* who do these horrific things are nothing to do with genuine pagans at all, and seem to sometimes jump on the occult bandwagon - as do the press.
IMHO they are (putting my neck on the block), often society outcasts who, maybe showing off or trying to be popular with a peer group, get 'carried away' or have heard/read something and misinterpretid (sp) it. Superstition has a lot to answer for.
You only have to look at the Chinese medicine following to see how things 'old wives tales work' e.g. bear bile for virility!!!! Or bar firing!!!!
Pagans generally worship and revere nature in all its forms and furriness, and would form a queue to do hunt down the f******.
Again, IMHO, you have to believe in the teachings of the Bible, to be able to turn it around and be a 'satanist'.
I'm not saying you have to be a anything to do with pagans to be part of this horrible attacks, i am totally aware of what pagans stand for and what they beleive and I think its great
. I think we are both on the same page as I was just saying that in the past religions have taken special days from others and used it as their own, like christmas was a pagan celebration but now it is more readily reconised as a Christian celebration.
I have to totally disagree with you about "teachings of the bible", any true christian would never do this to an animal as it is one of Gods creatures, but as we have both said these satanists may have "jumped on the bandwagon" of Christianity.
Lets just hope these attacks stop soon, what ever these sickos motives are!
At the end of the day this is all just speculation, just because there is a similar pattern to the attacks doesn't mean that it is anything to do with the occult, it could be some messed up copy cat attacker following a trend or anything really and until they are caught I honestly don't think we are going to find out, maybe not even then.
What I mean, is that part of the ethos of satanism is, that the bible teachings that Christians hold sacred, are turned on their head and reversed, so satanism becomes a 'mirror image' of Christianity.
You are right that Christmas, Easter etc was 'hijacked', in the nicest possible way. Hey ho, as long as chocolate is involved, who cares who had it first!
Echo your sentiments re these horrid, horrid attacks.
