When hacking mine out he if there is horses poo in the path/road he will go over to it and sniff at it for ages !! He also does this if I am leading him from the field.

I find it quite amusing myself bit like my dog who sniffs/wee's/sniffs the whole time he is out !!

Does anyone elses horse do this ??

Yes , paddy will sniff a pooh on the bridle path if i'm riding on the ' buckle' , he'll even sniff the pooh in the tub trug from the shets patch ( they live seperately ) i wonder if the pooh tells them abit about who it comes from , like doggy doo dah.

Yes mine do! They do it to try and identify other horses and pick up signals as they would in the wild.

Most horses would, it's their wild instincts (sp?)
Completely natural, they're identifying who's it is. If they were stallions in the wild they would be tracing to see if there's another dominant stallion near by. :)

watch them in the field - they do it all time - its natural and a way of knowing whoses been there first and whose around :) they are but wild animals in sheeps clothing :) xxxx

Mine does too! I think its a dominant thing as another poster has said - hes incredibly dominant and will always poo in the same place on hacks, wee over some poo etc!!

My boys are pooh sniffers, like reading the paper for them, tells them what's going on. The youngster always pees in the same spots so he might be marking territory too, leaving his message.
