I have only just heard this. Horse wormers will need a prescription from next month.
Probably to prevent people from using it on themselves!
Probably to prevent people from using it on themselves!
Plenty of people according to FB Insta etc who are buying up the paste to treat themselves.Who is doing this... and why?!
https://itba.ie/antiparasitics-regulation/ Forgot to add earlier and don’t know how to edit! This is in the Republic of Ireland, from the 1st of December wormers are POM and it will be a real PITA!
Yes, I agree. Also how are we supposed to prove we need the prescription? I'm imagining taking a pile of poo into the vet's office*People will just stop worming![]()
It’s Ireland but I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes in in the UK too. We are on a veterinary worming programme so for us it wouldn’t make a lot of difference as the vet does the worm counts so would just do the prescriptions too I guess.
It’s probably what they are aiming for to move to this type of surveillance and treat if needed rather than the older style of worming, to prevent resistance etc
If you’re with someone like Westgate you can just forward the email they send you with the result, it’s actually quite straightforward if you are on a plan or buy ad hoc wormers from poo post Westgate etc. saves worming when you don’t need to, I don’t think it’s a bad thing apart from the extra prescription cost! You’d only need to pay though if there was actually a worm issue and most plans include re-testing post treatment. I wonder how much vets are going to charge for this, be interesting to find out!Yes, I agree. Also how are we supposed to prove we need the prescription? I'm imagining taking a pile of poo into the vet's office*(I don't always use my vet to do worm counts, sometimes I send it off).
*Realistically I suppose we'd have to send the lab report to the vet? Yet another massive faff.
