Today market Drayton. Fordhall grange farm. Horses dogs and maybe other animals too. Large police and RSPCA presence. Have read 13 unmarked RSPCA vans in attendance and horseboxes coming and going all day. BBC and other media there.Hope the poor animals recover and that the people responsible for what's been going on there are prosecuted.

Just what is the point?

What is there to gain from hoarding loads of animals and not looking after them properly?

How do people go to sleep at night knowing they have starving animals stood outside?

I just don't get how people like that exist in this world? How can you go through life with such little compassion. It's just deranged.

One of the dogs I just got out was in an unheated caravan with no food for a week when the temperatures were below freezing. They had food and were feeding their other dog that lived elsewhere. When the police finally got their act together only one would go in. The large dog was in a tiny cage that was padlocked shut and they had to dig faeces out before they could get the crate open, it was piled high enough inside and out that the dog couldnt be freed until that happened. The dog had been in the crate for 3 YEARS minus less than a handful of trips outside, almost always when it broke out. That person went round proudly showing people photos of his dog. Some people are just wrong in the head.
 
I'm guessing a lot were voluntarily signed over as I can't imagine the RSPCA choosing to seize that many. I know of an awful yard where there are many horses buried where they've dropped and the RSPCA just 'educate' and leave again. This person is repeat offender and has been prosecuted in the past, but it seems that nobody wants to act a second time. I've also personally seen the RSPCA seize some,
but not others when they've all
been living in the same conditions (I was informed by an Inspector that rain water in a puddle counts as water provided).

There's a lot of arrogance and narcissism involved too.
 
with regards to the RSPCA. I know there are a lot of RSPCA bashers on the forum but in their defence I ould like to say that they themselves do not have a bottomlesss pit of money nor a bottomlesss pit of staff and volunteers. Same goes for all charities equine and otherwise. I know a couple of people who work for the RSPCA and whe nI was younger I volunteeered. They do their best even if it isnt alays good enough. They are snowed under with welfare cases. IYes i know the top poeple in the organisation get well paid but thats needed to keep the organisation up and running. there is a limit of facilities and people to deal with the rescues they can only do what they can do and ultimately non of it is their fault although they get pilloried for it. it is totally an wholy the fault of the animal abusers never that of any rescue organisation.
 
and regarding horse abuse. I strongly feeel that anyone who makes a living with horses wether they are a dealer or competetor should have a lifetime ban of working with and owning any animal. theres a story on the H&H front pagre at the moment about an eventer being sorry for abuse. life time ban would help in stopping these narsaccits and abusers.
 
Locals have been reporting this place for years, just a shame it has taken so long for action. I have never seen anywhere so over grazed, and horses always seemed to be rugged which is a give away to me. As usual RSPCA seem to have taken forever to do something. There was a fire here a few years ago and they did a go fund me and were selling a sob story then, a few people did try to warn about them then but no notice was taken.

The issue I have with the RSPCA is that they pretend to be something they aren't. They are the police force for animals, nor can they be everywhere, but they'll give that impression. Even the uniform gives the impression of authority, which is misleading. It's not just the public though, even the police hand stuff over to them and look to them to decide what happens. That's unacceptable for a charity to uphold the law because the police and councils can't be bothered/have no funds. The fact is that if the RSPCA were honest about their limitations, they wouldn't get so many donations.

Think I agree. The existence of the RSPCA can be used as an excuse to underfund welfare officers who have the real legal powers.

Well, not that not having the RSPCA here makes anything better. Any time we have tried to get welfare officers involved here they are just as toothless. It's still left to charities and private rescues.

I dont care. I have had the police present wanting to sieze rare breed dogs due to the level of abuse. I had breed specific rescue on their way to collect. All the RSPCA had to do was confirm with the police that the animals should be taken. They wouldnt. The people and animals have now disappeared. This is also a repeat offender. So no, they dont do their best at all. The inspector I dealt with got out of the car saying we wont be seizing any animals. Its been similar but less extreme every single time I have had dealings with them.

They were going to monitor the situation and have never once been back.

When I was a welfare officer i felt that some people like this as expressing a mental health issue .
They get high from the feeling they get during a straight after acquiring the animal but that fades and then they seek it again with another.
There’s also people who enjoy the power over the animals and they enjoy watching the hoops people have to jump trying to help the animals .
It’s a very uncomfortable thing to be involved in there’s the suffering of the animals and then there’s the dealing your sixth sense screaming at to get away from this person .
The RSPCA gets a lot of stick some deserved but the officers on the ground go into these situations repeatedly it’s not an easy thing to do.
You see evil up close.
 
I had a friend who was an RSPCA officer. She worked hard and tirelessly. But they’re in overwhelm. They do seize animals and bring court cases all the time. I’m not saying I’m a super fan of how they do things but I guess they do what they can.
I’m super grateful right now for helping these poor animals in Market Drayton. Thank you for all that has been done.

It might not be their fault. There is a potential cause of hoarding that is most likely to affect people who regularly come into contact with large numbers of animals who might carry a paticular infection.

That article seems to be a little far fetched IMHO.

Hoarding does occur outside of owning animals and to suggest an infection from cat urine causes it is a stretch to be honest. I believe most people that hoard or neglect animals usually have underlining metal health problems.
 
The Animal Welfare Law is so restrictive and biased towards the owners it's so hard to get anything done. As for removing the animals there are hardly any spaces available in any rescues. They have to prioritise what they can deal with. Equine rescues are closing down at a rapid rate, their costs have increased so much. What you think you know about rescues, until you are in the thick of it, you will never know.

The RSPCA have no special powers and can't do anything other than obey the law, which is not fit for purpose.

That's the rub of it imo. They like to be seen as an authority, when they are nothing like it. When they walk around dressed like police officers and trespass onto people's land, you can hardly blame
the public for thinking they have more clout than they actually do. They are trying to do far more than they are capable of, so should decide what they want to focus on. I was astounded to find just how few inspectors there are.
