Horses: The Ten Truths

I have seen them before but they are truly truths. Especially number 10, I think you should be there with them as they go, it will ease their fears.

Thanks for posting, I agree they should be on every tack room wall.:)

Yes that made me cry too.

Some very valid truths there.

Horses have very polite ways of expressing their unhappiness towards us when you think about how big and powerful they really are.

The last one has made me feel bad for not being with Koko on his last journey :(

Beautiful video though

I must be the only one that thought it was rather contrived and it didn't make me cry at all!

Don't feel bad Kokopelli normally these things make me cry but I must say I found the last truth totally stupid as it's sometimes better if someone calm and not emotionally attached is with a horse at this time.

I hope no one here has ever sold a horse becaus you must be feeling really bad now!

I have to say i loved it all the way through but the last one did make me stop. Because if you're going to be upset then sometimes it's better if someone calm can be there at the end for them. After all, all a horse ever wants is a strong leader who is reassuring. They wouldn't suspect anything then. Don't feel bad kokopelli, there's plenty of reasons why people may not e there at the end, but what matters is all the years before it where they've been loved and well cared for. x

Thanks I do feel better now. I didn't want to be there for his last moments because I didn't want to have to see him like that, I wanted my last memorys of him to be happy ones :)

Ditto this, and if the horse and owner are the wrong combination then you won't be doing them any favours by keeping them for the next twenty years at least. Circumstances and practicalities mean that it isn't always in the horse's best interests to keep them no matter what either, and it must make people in that situation feel awful.

Number 10 made me cry, as like you I wasnt there at the end for my mare either, I'd cared for her for 27 years but my OH was with her at the end.
Unlike me he was emotionaly detatched from the situation, so she died with 2 strangers but 2 people who were calm. In a perfect world I would have been there but I'm not perfect!
I thought the ten truths were good in theory but not very realistic for the real world.

I'm number three who thought it was a bit much. Sorry. I can't stand anthropomorphic twaddle.

Some of those were very salient points but if you sell a horse you are not going to traumatise it.

And what about all the horses in the world which are professionally produced and don't have 'their own' human to talk to them. They don't give a rats bottom as long as some one says hello to them. My own horses are not even particularly fussed for me. Anyone will do as long as they're fed!

Horses are not humans.
