Horses with human names?

Mine has a human name, I didn't name her, but I quite like it. I have had to introduce her to a human with the same name as her which was odd. My friends kids find it confusing as they have a friend with the same name.

Human names for horses are pretty common, the vast majority of horses on our yard have names that wouldn't raise eyebrows if you heard a child with the same name. I reckon about 14 out of 26 have human names, tom, bob, george etc. With a few more having names that are animal names but could be used for humans like Sky.

I knew someone who called every pet she ever had,Lucy. So every horse she had was called Lucy (she never had more than one at once),every dog etc. Bit weird...;) She never had any kids&I wonder if they were all a substitute...

All our dogs have human (typically old people's names). I don't know why, but it's just become a tradition. And if I were to name a horse, then it would too.

I have a Garth - didn't like it at 1st but it does kind of suit him- reminds me of Birds of a Feather

And Ruby this really suits her

I have or have had: Charlie, April, Georgie, Alfie, Isaiah, Flynn, Joe.

The fun starts when you have a horse and husband with the same name:D

I have a Jaime (because I'm a huge dork and he's named after a character in a book/tv show) and when I'm cross with him it's James. My current horses are the only ones I've named, and they all have people names.

Nearly every horse I've ridden has had a human name, too. Currently have Henry and Chloe. Henry was already named and Chloe was Ness, but she was just sooo pretty I wanted a nice feminine name for her.

Rosco (cat) was named after the Dukes of Hazzard sheriff and Cleetus was named after the sheriff's cousin. I did have a Suzi, too. All the others had cat names (although unusual).

I've known a stallion called Kevin (I'm sure he would've preferred something noble like Hercules), mare called Kim (named after a fat grey farmer of the same name), on our yard we have a Bob, a Rodney, Harry... Have known a William, Polly, Smith, Lane, Roger, Georgie, Freddy. I would quite like to find a dope on a rope type called Dave but still searching for that one :)

All five of mine have human names - Dennis (in sig pics), Morris, Holly, Minnie and Ailsa (Irish). They have posh registered names which are not human names.

Dennis has half brothers called Dave, Simon, Ricky and Fred. Again all have registered names too.

My friend's three called called Ron, Stella and Maddy.

Another friend has one called Nigel.

Another friend's supreme international champion stallion is called Gary!! Although he has a posh name too.

There are about 30 horses at our yard and quite a few also have "human" names, probably about 1/3 of them at least, now that I think of it all of mine have "human" names, I wouldn't change any of them. They're called Bella, Basil and Maggie. Bella and Basil have racing names but no one calls them by that.

On my yard we have -
Ned (Edward haha), Jack, Toby, Sandy, Ziggy (I suppose that's a people name?), Sammy, Victor, Spike, Delilah, Tegan, Harley and Louie!

None people names -
Blackie, Golly (Goliath), Viking Spirit, Willow, Brwnt, 2X Biscuit and Sharkie!

If I got to name a horse, I wouldn't give it an English human name. I like the name Shinji or Kenji. I do have a whole list of horse names :P but Ned suits him too much to change! Also, Fatty Lumpkin is a perfect name for a Shetty.

Many of the horses on the yard have human names. MYBs horse is called Jim although for reasons best known to herself she's started to call him Bob. There's Dan x 2, Kevin, Jeff, Rodney and various others

The goats are called Victoria, Graham and Steve (the baby)

All the guinea pigs and dogs have human names but I won't bore you with them:)

Al has Reggie, Bee (Beatrice when she's naughty. So all the time!) and Lily atm. She also rides an Archie, a Victor and cares for a Thomas. The donkey is called Gerard...

All our pets have human names too (Bertie, Daisy and Rosie for the dogs). We sound like a prep school outing at competitions :D

I have a Maddie at the moment and have had in the past a Crystal and a Scarlett.

I have known horses with these names though, Danny, Cindy, micky, Benson, Jack, Vinnie (Vincent), Boris, Pandora, Kate, Holly, Prucila, Marcus, Tommy, Timmy, Peggy, Monty, Barney, Dillon, Cally, Harry, zac, Ezmeralda, Jasmine, Jimmy, Rodney, Fred, Mable, Gabriella, Jason, Declan, Morgan, Freddie, Sianne, Rufus, Megan, Ella, Tara, Alfred (Alfie), William, and Rupert. Probably loads more I have come across but have forgotten the names of.
