Was looking at getting a med weight rhino turnout wug with detacheable neck for christmas.

Does anyone know how well they fit. Do they have descent size neck and rug depth. Good and bad points please as not cheap!
Its for a trakehner but she has big shoulders and deep neck for her build. Hope to find something that doesnt rub out half her mane.

I have a heavyweight Rhino Plus. It's not fantastically deep (my Rambo Duo fits much better depth-wise). The V-front closure fits my big-shouldered, deep-necked mare wonderfully! Her mane has never been rubbed. I would always go for a Rambo over a Rhino personally but if I really couldn't save up to afford the Rambo version I'd be happy enough with a Rhino.

I have a Rhino lightweight rug + neck for the summer and have found it slightly tighter in fit in the body than my Rambos are (this may be down to the fastenings going straight across on the Rhino, whereas the Rambo has the 'v' fastening in front).

My mare is cob x WB and wears a 6'3. I bought the neck cover separately and got a large as I find Horseware necks can be a little small. This winter I bought a Rambo Supreme which came with a medium sized neck, so I also ordered a large size neck to go with it which fits my girl better. I think that the larger rugs (6'6 and above) do come with the large size neck cover though.

I have a H/W and a L/W Rhino. The chestnut check ones. I don't use them anymore because they rubbed half my mare's mane out.

My mare also has big shoulders and I have since found Mar Todd's to be a better fit.

Thanks for help.

I like the rambos but sooo expensive. May look at mark todd instead. Want one with detacheable neck as much more flexible.

I have a Mark Todd (or two!) and find that although they are also a good fit for big shoulders, they aren't so much for deep/low-set necks. The Rambo/Rhino V front is much better... but then it's a case of trial and error IME to find out! My Mark Todds have been fab but I won't go back now, I am a Rambo addict!

This is my mare, if it helps!

She is 16.2 and a bit! If anything she has filled out since this photo. Her chest is huge, she needs an x/full breastplate and that's on the biggest holes!

She takes a 6' 6" in everything and the MT one gives her some room around her shoulders and they also have the shoulder pleat in them. I bought her the L neck cover and there is plenty of room in it.

What a lovely mare!
Mine is similar in build but only 6'3 and a mud monster. Hence the need for a neck cover as gone like a snowy white pony now.

Will probably try a MT although wanted to get off internet as cheaper, but then if doesnt fit have to pay postage to send back. Do they do medium weight?

Love my rhinos and have a few that fit both my big necked/shouldered girls.

I don't think they ruin the mane if you just take the time to give it a v quick brush through each day.

That said, I would have to agree a rambo is THE best

I try and have a rambo as their main TO and a spare in the rhino of each of the weights I use.

(My girls are out 24/7 so I generally invest in good tun outs and don't use stable rugs.)

I bought a M/W from Speedgate Direct. Free postage over £60...bargain!

I groom my mare top to bottom each day, including mane and tail. I found after wearing the Rhino for a few hours over 2 - 3 days it started coming out in handfuls!

That is a bargain. Thanks for that Jo.

Would love horseware but they dont do 200gm with detacheable neck cover, and of course price.

She might have early pressie next week.

They do - Rambo Supreme mediumweight. The Supremes are very expensive though, sadly! Still worth it IMO if they fit the horse
