Horseware rugs on Warmbloods?

I went rug shopping for my 16.1hh WB the other day hoping to get a few Horseware rugs as they are great on my finer Akhal Teke. However, girl in the shop said they do not fit WBs very well as they are designed for finer TB types? Do people agree with this? So I left with a load of Weatherbeetas instead, which seem ok but just aren't the same

I've got 2 wb's, one more tb type and one with VERY huge shoulders/chest and a shire x and the only one I would put a weatherbeeta on is the slighter, tb type - personally I think horseware rugs are the best (along with fal) for wb's, everything else I've tried, including Mark Todd, just slip back and really restrict their shoulders...just my opinion though lol!

Thanks JBJ. I really want to return the Weatherbeetas, they are orange and black for a start (yuck! This season's colours!). I think I will swap them for some decent Horsewares instead.

Well how funny because HW rugs fit my extremely chunky welsh section d perfectly, but the TB on our yard is drowned by them!

Hello,

I find horseware tight round the shoulder on my WB, just a bit to snug.
Fal fit him perfectly and i find the heavy weights last for years.

Horseware do the Excel ones for heavier weight horses. I have Rambos for my WBs and TBs and they seem to fit very well!

I use a Rambo Duo on my TB which doesn't fit to badly but I think it would fit a heavier horse slightly better as he does have a bit to much room in it.

My Bavarian WB had a Rambo Wug, it was like a mini skirt on him! Would never buy Rambo for a heavy horse again, the Fal fit so much better.

My Arab has a Rambo Surpeme and it fit's like a glove, love it on her. I have to agree with the shop lady, they really seem to fit the finer to medium weight horses better.

I would have to agree too, but they do do an XL now, for larger horses. I would love one for my WSD x TB, but she has a very wide chest.

Have to agree with Gemma, I find that the Horseware rugs are too tight around the shoulders on my Danish WB and are not long enough (he's 16.3h) but my lighterweight Oldenburg is fine in them. I have FAL's for the bigger WB and they fit perfectly and last for years, worth the extra money. I wouldn't recommend HW for middleweights or above.

The person in the shop clearly doesn't know much about Rugs. Horseware's rug are designed for all horses but naturally if you have a horse that is a larger build than the average horse (A WB for example) you simply need to size up.

For this reason they developed different cuts of rugs; The Wug Shape - for slighter animal such as TBs, the Original for medium to large build and the XL for broad horse such as Clyde Crosses e.t.c.

There is no such thing a manufacturers rugs being too small or too big, simply they have to be designed around the typical proportions of horses with a set lenght (6'3/6'6 e.t.c).
They research the proportions of thousands of horses to get the average proportion sizes at a set lenght of horse.

If you find that the desired size, 6'6 for example is too tight then your horse is slightly larger in an areas (shouler, rump..) than normal and you need to use a 6'9.
