Apologies that this is from Daily Mail but I had to share! To be honest, after reading this article I'm on the rider's side. The teenage boy sounds like so many young male drivers I have come across, arrogant and impatient. His side of things sounds a bit fabricated to me!

Anyway, hardly 'beat' the car, she threw her whip at it ffs!

Read this and was shocked - he honked his bloody horn at two horses !! And how can a crop cause damage to a car ? Bonkers.

I read it in the Telegraph.

I know! I call bull**** on his part and feel sorry for the woman who has to pay £1500 in costs. The boy already had points on his license for being on his phone so think this probably reflects on his driving ability! Poor woman, can't wait for all the comments on DM to ensue which slag riders off.

Why is an 18 year old driving an Audi A5???????? All I could come up with was a 14 year old vitara....obviously doing something wrong!

Personally I think they were both as bad as each other...... When on the road you have to full concentrate on your horse and it's position, while the driver should realise it's silly and dangerous to beep a horn!

to be honest I have no idea how a whip hitting a car can cause that much money worth of damage.......

I am on the riders side to a point, throwing the whip no matter how angry you are is just asking for trouble. Also if I threw my whip at a passing car I would freak out my own horse.

Normal daily fail trying to be dramatic and writing a badly put together article.

did it have a weight in the end of it to damage car lol. Think he come of lightly he could of had two horses sitting on the bonnet with his behaviour

where it might be wrong to hit a car, i have done it and faced with the situation would do it again.

No way can that amount of damage be caused fom a whip.

This damn hooligan should know u NEVER beep a horse. I wish the horse had booted her car, that then might be £1500 . If this idiot has done a driving test he should know that.

" incident bests resemblance to Faulty Towers sketch where Basil beats his car with a tree branch" How? Just How is it similar?
He's certainly a clever chappie as he's managed to get money from the incident. An entrepreneur indeed as he's profited from this situation.
AND An 18 year old driving an Audi A5! Lots of room there for him to get into trouble too.

hmmm. 18 yr old's in Audi a5's sound like a menace in himself and it sounds like he acted with the impatience 'get out of my damn way, i own the road' you might expect from such an inexperienced teenage driver in a fast car.

Beeping the horn would have been liable to startle the horses but it seems the woman rider didnt help herself by engaging herself in a row with the 'internet entrepreneur' (does that mean he knows his way around facebook?)

'meeting of minds' the lawyers decide. heh. meeting of bolshy idiots more like.

Pillock. The man not the woman. He should be prosecuted for dangerous driving. In the past I was quite feisty with stupid drivers myself until some one told me a story about a man that stopped his car and reversed back into two horse over a similar incident. You have to be so careful.

hey this is the Daily Mail ya know. it probably took an unpaid, intern researcher half a day to try to find a picture in the photo library to go with this story and at a loss, came up with that!

I also think they were as bad as each other, the fact that even the other rider who was a witness says that the lady rode her horse at the car purposely and made it reverse and the claim that the horse was over the white line on purpose doesnt show the horsewoman in a good light

'Ha! Ha! Ha! Typical for that part of Cheshire! U-C-T riding her horse and believing that all others using the road being 'peasants' and have to give her the right of way. I'm surprised (but pleased) that the Macclesfield Magistrates awarded the young man the money to repair the damage to his car'

Extract of a comment. Peasants haha! Love some of the comments! Although they are, on the whole, on the rider's side.

Personally I often find that, when I'm startled by very dangerous driving my carriage or schooling whip will often make contact with a car (in an attempt to control my horse obvously :/). I must be using the wrong kind of whip, because I'd have to tie half a house-brick to the end to do £1500 of damage.

^^^ that's pretty much my thoughts.

Where an insurance company is involved it doesnt take much to do £1500 worth of damage at all. After an accident my alloy wheel with not a mark on it 'cost' £400 to repair - I work for an alloy wheel company and know the true cost is around £20-50 depending on damage. a few scratches on a bonnet would have almost surely been deemed a full respray with some sort of 'specialist paint' I dare say

and probably some the damage was already there as general marks i.e. bramble scratches etc. etc.

Sorry, but I am not on the rider's side. Yes - stupid and dangerous of the idiot to sound his horn. Equally stupid and dangerous for the woman to turn her horse around and approach the car. Really stupid to throw a whip at something else whilst on the horse - what if it had recoiled and smacked the horse? Both of them show complete lack of any kind of common sense on a public highway.

I don't think it matters as to what car he was driving - but for all the HHOers who are confused, the incident occurred in Cheshire, which is Footballers' wives county ;)

I agree she sounds like a confrontational idiot who risked disaster if the driver had been unbalanced in any way to make a point.

EDIT: Just read posts that happened whilst I was writing mine - so obviously I am not the only one !

Am I the only one that thinks this woman sounds extremely arrogant and appears to believe that all road users should give way to her ?

As one of the more vulnerable road users it is upon us to be polite and make an effort to give a good impression.

She and a friend were out riding, a car beeped, at that point you know you are dealing with someone who is not willing to be patient, does she move over and make effort to give room to the vehicle or trot on until there is more room, no she turns round to confront said driver. This driver then reverses away, he appears to be the one being intimidated here not her. When she turns back to carry on again rather than go single file or get on the verge they carry on as a pair. He overtakes (on what must be a reasonable width road as there appears to be white line down the middle) , if the whip had still been in hand and she had hit the car then maybe she would have had a better case, as the argument would be valid that she was scared he was too close but instead she loses her rag and throws her whip
This cracks his windscreen (not disputed) and causes other bodywork damage (disputed) so this whip obviously was heavy enough to cause some damage and the courts believe all the damage.

If the repairs went through an Audi dealership (which they might have to have done in order not to invalidate the warranty) then it is highly possible that the damage would have mounted up as a dent to the bonnet probabaly required the bonnet to be repaired and resprayed and this might have resulted in more (or even all) of the car being resprayed in order to colour match.

That's no footballers wife!!!

Just discussed this with my OH (non-rider). They're obviously both in the wrong.
He thinks the magistrate should have called them both up to the bench, leaned forward and banged their heads sharply together. Case dismissed.
