Horsey resolutions for 2014

Mine are: Get some horsey transport sorted to get out and about to shows.
Progress my 4yr old's jumping in her 5th year -2014
Be competing at Elementary BD by end of year and have her enjoying it.

mine are
start cantering my trotter again now she is happy to canter and not pace and stop worrying about it
get her out to come walk trot tests

Probably just to get on with my mares rehab so she can come back to happy hacking at least, then get her in foal successfully to H Tobago in April :)
And to crack on with the 4 y/o and get her out to some competitions! Will check back with you all December 2014 ;)

Well my overall resolution is to be the author of my own happiness so not being too attached to what does or doesnt happen with the horses is a key part of this!

However, I do believe in having some goals (but not being too attached to whether I meet them or not!) so mine are -

1. Get Xas backed at 3 and happy, calm and sound poddling about gently
2. Enjoy riding Bilbo (new horse picking up on Thursday!) and do it with a smile on my face
3. Get to at least 3 pleasure rides with my 2 sisters

:)

To continue having fun with my girl- smile always even when she's doing her best leapfrog impression!

To get more than 60% in a prelim test & try for the trailblazers!

More jumping fun & have a go at the eland hunter trial & one day

New Years resolution for horses is:
- compete my 4 year in Endurance, XC and JumpX

Which leads me onto learning to have more confidence in jumping :)

- take my oldie on pleasure rides and stop wrapping him up in cotton wool just because he now has cushings lol (he's fitter than most blinking horses I know :) )

So overall, my New Years resolution is just to get a few rosettes lol :D

This year my goals are to hack out more, we've not done much this year due to a bad fall in march that knocked all my confidence!
My next goal is to get out competing more, I'd like to achieve 60% or higher in intro test and maybe have a go at a prelim. Also have at least one go at show jumping. We've got a jumping lesson at a different venue weather permitting at end of jan :)
Hopefully an exciting year!!

Buy Elvis a dressage saddle.

Do a walk trot dressage test.
Do a low level show jumping competition. (Clear round)
Take Elvis cross country training.
Hack Elvis out and not be bothered by his behaviour.

Be content that Elvis is happy with me and that just because someone could do more with him, that's not something he cares about.

Keep him sound.

Totally honestly - to stop gushing about my stunning lad to hubs, he says i go on and on and on and on and on... :o

And my second one is to spend more time with him. Shy obviously, not hubs :D

Start cracking on with my 4yo properly. She's old enough and mature enough and done enough fun hacking to start schooling her a bit more now and I need to be more consistent. She proved yesterday she'll hack out on a loose rein in 25mph winds and rain after a day off so bad weather is no excuse!

Have fun on Squirrel when he comes back into work

Now ive got a sound horse again, get back out eventing this season, having had well over a year out with a broken horse i found had a few "bottle" issues when i got back on, i worked through that last year and played about without putting pressure on and am ready for it this season again. So hope to start the season on intro and finish pre novice, work hard on my dressage and try for elementary tests by the back end of the year .
Make a concerted effort to properly structure my schooling sessions and do this structured work at least twice a week

Get my 14 year old-self jumping confidence back... does that exist in your late 20's?! Here's for hoping - must be in here somewhere :)

Haha you sound just like me. I came across a fallen tree the other day that I knew I wouldn't have thought twice about jumping when younger. Instead I made excuses and turned back.

Actually I have several
As well as trying a new horse sport (polo) I would like to
Learn to jump
Pass exams so can get into plumpton college
Not make a fool of myself when I go to college interview
I would also like to have more self confidence in asking people things and wanting to do new things

Haha that's like me! I used to jump anything but now I turn to jelly looking at a cross pole. Got my first jumping lesson in years tomorrow and I'm so scared, what if she makes me do a straight or a spread?! *shudders* Ekkkk!

Hmm not too sure what mine are! But probably...
- To start doing a bit of jumping and pole work with Alfie again
- To carry on long reining Puggy and maybe teach him to pull a tyre behind him (considering teaching him to drive!)
- To get a project horse to bring on and sell over the Summer

:)

Mine are to turn GrayMo into The Philanderer (Ha! Maybe on one of Phils bad days at best!)

Get the Hocamaffe back in the show ring in RoR and Veterans.

Get my nephew riding well enough to be respectable at the Highland Show.

After a 30 year break from riding......maybe this is a bit ambitious but
-start to do Pilates once a week
-Pay close attention to trainer and do "homework" as set!
-Ride 5 times a week at least on my gorgeous loan horse
-Enter prelim dressage at unaffiliated.
-get a decent score at said event!
-by end of year enter at affiliated and not look idiotically out of place!
-end year without bad back/knee/hip

Love this thread!
My resolutions are quite low key but hopefully achievable. I'm a first year student nurse and mum of 2 so my time is a bit more restricted than it used to be. However, I need my horsey time and would never part with my girl so my aims for this year are:
1. Hack out at least twice a week
2. Set up some small jumps in the field, don my brave pants and improve my jumping skills
3. Continue doing groundwork with my horse
4. Going back to hacking, when we hack out I must have a plan of action and include transitions, rein back etc to keep my horse focused. Plodding along does neither of us any good as my mare gets very distracted and spooky and this in turn makes me a wimp.
5. Maybe, all being well, attempt to enter a couple of local shows/comps but not sure what we'd do yet. Our local RC does mini jumping classes so we may attempt this, or maybe a little dressage test.
6. Enjoy my time with my horse and remind myself of how lucky I am to have her. Inside I'm still the same horse-mad girl I've always been and I don't want to lose the sense of fun and excitement I had around horses when I was younger.

Mine are small due to my depression but Im hoping to use this years goals to booster my self discipline and self esteem :)

1) Re start my regular lessons with a firm plan of action in mind

2) Get Jester started and riding out, just hacking for now so he can see the world

3) Take Jester and my friends horse to the beach for the day, in hand, just for fun :)

So 2014 is almost upon us so I thought it'd be fun to start a horsey resolution thread.

As most of you know when I bought H in the summer my confidence was pretty low and although it's improved massively I've still got a long way to go until I'm back to being the bold rider I used to be. With that in mind my plans for the year probably sound pretty tame but I wanted them to be achievable rather than something that would knock our confidence again.

So mine are:

1. Get H hacking out happily alone. He's awesome when hacking in company but really does lack confidence when going it alone so now that my own confidence is growing I'm going to work on getting him to be a chilled out hack.

2. Do things that scare me. There's plenty of things that could be on this list but for now I've got a hunter trial and sponsored ride to focus on in March.

3. Compete! Our long term aim is unaffiliated ODEs so this year I'm planning on doing at least one hunter trial, clear round class and walk/trot test.

What are your horsey resolutions for 2014?

So 2014 is almost over so I thought I'd revive this so everyone could share how they've got on, and if there's still things to tick off you've still got a month left ;)

For us I've managed to get H hacking alone, even managed a canter in an open field the first time I took him out solo at the new yard, which considering I used to feel sick just getting on board is a huge achievement for us.

In terms of facing things that scare me, I faced his napping head on and now have a horse I barely recognise from the nappy b****r he used to be. I also agreed to Windsor sponsored ride for our first ever sponsored ride which was pretty brave of me and even jumped some jumps whilst there and dare I say, enjoyed it! We've also just started popping logs without a lead and I'm actually riding him forward when he backs off rather than just sitting there and hoping he figures it out.

We've done our first dressage test (60%) and placed in both our showing classes (3rd and 5th) and are heading off to a TREC event next month.

There's still a long way to go but I'm pleased to report that aside from the hunter trial we've ticked off all our resolutions for the year :D

And let's face it this thread is pretty pointless without some pics, so here they are...

Strutting our stuff in our stressage test... (Please excuse how tubby he is in this, these photos were a HUGE wake up call as to how big he'd got and I've worked hard to get his weight down ever since!)

So how have you all got on with your resolutions for the year?

Ooooo I cringed reading mine I've changed a lot! Did go trekking quite a bit which was a blast and a half, did NOT start competing due to various blips, pony is not back yet, and I now firmly do not give a rats ass about people judging my riding. Woohoo!

Also well done you, your horse is gorgeous :)
