It's that time of year again. With 2015 almost upon us I thought it would be fun to start the horsey resolution thread.

I'm pleased to report that we ticked off all but one of our resolutions for 2014 and I'm beginning to feel like H and I are a real partnership which is nice. H's Christmas presents consisted of lots of schooling/dressage books and the prelim/novice tests so a lot of 2015's focus will be on dressage and putting in the schoolwork to get him to the level I want, which will be tough as all my previous dressage horses have been schoolmasters.

So here's mine for the year...

1. We did a handful of intro tests this year to give H a feel for dressage whilst I worked on getting his canter balanced at home. Now he's fitter and finding canter work a whole lot easier I'm planning to get him out to some prelim tests this spring with a highly ambitious aim of doing our first novice test by the end of summer.

2. I recently realised that I hadn't had a jumping lesson in about 10 years so I plan to pull on my brave pants and start working on our jumping. We're already popping logs whilst out but it would be good to get back to a point where I'm really enjoying jumping rather than my "feel the fear and do it anyway" approach I currently have.

3. And if 2 goes to plan I hope to take H out hunting next autumn.

What are your plans for 2015?

I have set myself one simple resolution this year... to have fun :) Its been a dreadful year and pony and I have taken a backseat, but no more! We will do a bit of what we feel like, with no pressure at all :)

Lucy - Go out at BE90, hopefully do a couple of BE100's & then sell :( she may sell before I do the 100's but I will advertise & keep competing so will just see how it goes

Maggie - Break her in the spring then give her till probably November time off to grow then start doing some hacking & light work

Some dressage tests on my two 5 yo's. First one is in a couple of weeks eek.

Lightly back my other youngster ( not me!) sit on her by the end of the year, then turn her away. I'm soooo hoping she's as chilled under saddle as she is to handle.

Take the other babies to a in hand show.

Get some rosettes

Hubby has bought me a lovely new 3.5t so no more excuses!
Rocks is 6 this time so can no longer claim to be a baby! So we are joining local RC to do lots of lessons and clinics with the aim of doing a bit of everything and perhaps a bit of working hunter later in the season. September brings 3 full days of pre-school for the twins so will finally have time to do things!!

Cruise the Daemon around a novice and some small show jumping competitions. Hit up some xc schooling.

Take Fergus out at BD Medium, install changes so we have the option of hitting AM in 2016 (all disasters aside), lots of training, try and establish the occasional better score at BD :p

I think mine will have to be to really work on the bond between Moses and myself, to really get to know him under saddle. To challenge him and myself to do more and just to progress throughout the year, so that by this time next year we will be a team!

1. Get back into riding my horse and get our fitness levels back up.
2. Pass trailer test.
3. Take horse out for a few test runs (i.e. arena hire, hacking etc).
4. Try clear round jumping and/or unaffiliated prelim test.

1) get my half finished horsebox finished

2) Get out to some shows

3) practice running, find big pants and a rock solid bra for the showing

have fun eventing at novice, maybe do another 1* at some point.

Compete at medium dressage, and maybe if things are going well try an AM ;)
But first need to get the HP more solid, and work on my sitting trot :p
Should be doable, have changes more or less established so will see!

Another resolution is to get some lessons this year from my fave dressage trainer, it's been ages since I had one!!

However considering how much uni takes over it will have to be packaged into summer :p

To get little appy (he is 19) schooling back up again his muscles are stronger and working to support him as his is getting older.

To do my class 2, had my forms filled out for about a month just need to photo copy my card lisence so I can.send the original off with application. Send to be hesitating over it where as a few years ago it would have been done and id be having lessons by now :(

Start schooling the elephant when he is allowed back in the school and see if I can get some of those movements he shows off in the feild under saddle.

Swap you a pretty solid HP for some changes? :p

Sounds like a plan! Bill loves doing changes, he sees it as good craic and likes the "hop" i think :p
Very helpful that you have solid HP - how did you teach it? We could do HHO Skype lessons! :D

I just can't understand why we can't get the HP - can do good SI and good LY but can't do them together - typical man lol

Fergs thinks changing canter leads should be done through walk, trot, or levade. But never directly :cool3:

I never really thought about HP - I just started asking him to move into the bend from my outside leg until it happened. One of my trainers sometimes gets me to ride travers on the diagonal (which is arguably basically HP, although there's some dispute over that I think). Basically I aimed for something resembling it (even if the Qs were leading or trailer or whatever) and fixed the issues after we had the idea in his head? Not that I'm necessarily someone to take tips from :p

I'd like to do my first ever events on my pony, probably just a BE80 and possible a 90 by the end of the year. I'd also like to go out and do a few Novice dressage tests instead of always sticking to prelim! With my horse I'd like to establish the right canter more then do some more dressage tests at prelim and novice level. However everything depends on getting lifts off other people so I'll have to see!

Mine sounds simple.................FIND A BLINKING HORSE TO BUY!!!

Been looking since July.........hurry up everyone and start advertising........pretty please.

To get the pony to at least one dressage competition and replicate how he is working at home!

Improve canter to the point where we can start work on changes (which means doing physio exercises and stretches religiously to help him)

To have as much fun as possible! After thinking I wouldn't get to ride him again at the start of this month and then him coming sound again, I'm just going to make the most of him, even if it's just the fun we have at home.

Find the time to actually ride the boy to get him fit, then try and potter round some intro dressage, sponsored rides and maybe some miniature clear round jumping if I get super brave :p and maybe get round to taking him hunting next winter (if I can find a non-jumper to tag along with!)

So many goals for 2015! Hoping to accomplish them all, don't know if I'll manage it though lol.

1) build cross country fences to practice over

2) become more confident riding my horse. Have had a very rough first year with him. Hoping to compete him in the summer

3) would love to get a 'project horse' to work on. Won't be able to next year as I'm doing my Leaving Cert!

Here's to a great 2015! :)

After having a miserable few years with personal illness and a psychotic young horse, I'm now at a stage where I'm feeling so much better both physically and mentally, my horse has been backed and am feeling really ready to take 2015 by the horns! No resolutions, just can't wait to finally be 'up and at life' again. Bring it on! :)

HNY everyone, I hope you succeed with all your endeavours!

Get my girl up & running after stifle surgery & a hole in her meniscus.

Enjoy hacking & tad boy of school - intro tests of she's feeling good maybe a prelim?!?!

Just enjoying a great summer keeping her sound hopefully!!

I'm bringing Older Horse back into work now that his feet are fully sorted. It's taken him three months to transition fully to barefoot, but it was worth the time and effort. Hard to believe that he's twenty! The Camel will mostly just be growing, maybe some long reining and leading out from Older Horse if he seems confident enough. I don't want to rush him; he will only turn three this June. He won't be backed until he is six.

Break and bring on pony doing majority of the work myself.

Join riding club and hopefully win a points trophy

Lose weight!!!!! (Me not the horse)

Get my boy out eventing. We have had so many setbacks and he is not the most confident horse although is one of the best jumpers I have ever sat on. He is also smart and can work things out for himself, unfortunately not always to my benefit!

I have given us the best chance to do this by placing myself at a small professional event yard so fingers crossed,

Oh and of course, get back my own personal fitness as I had time off with illness and injury. Sadly, walking my dogs and riding only 1 horse is no longer enough to keep me even vaguely fit!
