I need to get some bags of horshage for my mare. Can anyone tell me how many normal size nets you get out of a bag please? Need to figure out how many to get tomorrow.

I usually get 3 to 4 night nets per bag when i used to use it

Sorry for a useless reply.
Its years since I used this and things may have changed but back then I was told to feed a small net. If you fed normal size nets, it would last no time at all.

Mine lasts about 3 nights but I do feed a small net of hay as well at the mo as there is no grass in the field (just snow!).

It won't look like a normal sized net though as the sections are pretty well squished together.

Sorry but it depends on your mares height, weight.
I found that my 16hh 550kg mare got through, 1 1/2 bags every 2 days and she's not in work and also started chewing the wood in her stable, so I think not enough fibre, but not sure as she's back on hay.

I was finding I needed to use almost a whole bale of Horsehage overnight

Bodey has 2 slices a night (which is approx 7kg), but then he is a fat blob. Only got it because we had a hay supply problem, but have more hay coming on Tuesday.

That would be about right then. My mare is 570KG and 16.3

She needed almost a whole bag to keep her going over night. I was cramming as much as I physically could into her haybar then she was eating the last bit in the bag for breakfast, before turnout.

Horsehage is just not feasible for horse owners IMO.

I have had to resort to using Horsehage and on the green colour ones it says it will last a 500kg horse 3 days! I was amazed as that is approx 2 sections a day (I posted something about it saying that surely it wasnt enough fibre!) Anyway - mine live out and I have been giving them 1/2 a bag each a day - approx 3 sections - in a small holed haynet, this lasted them about 4hrs plus a bit of hay and whatever grass they can get through the snow. I have to say I wouldnt feed it long term because of price and lack of fibre.

They do love it though!

OP have you thought about using medium bale haylage?

That's what I am doing now. It's costing me roughly £2 a day, and that's feeding enough that some is left in the morning.

My last bale would have lasted 11/12 days if it had been nights only. It was still fresh at the end.

I have bought a batch of the bales now and that will work out an even greater saving.

My horse is 715 kg and 1 bag lasts him 2.5/3 days. I eek it out because he is on a diet and he has a lot of molly chaff.

They say feed more haylage than hay because of its high water content.

It's worth shopping about I think. A local feed merchant sells Horsehage at £ 6.50 and their own unmarked for £ 6.90

The own brand one was so much bigger it lasted me a good 2 1/2 days and was just as nice tbh.

My first medium bale was open for 10 days, cost £20 and was fresh as a daisy when I finished it. Apparently it keeps much better in the colder weather. I just get a hand from someone to roll it into the barn when I want to open one. You can move it on your own, it's the parking it that's tricky

I get through such a staggering amount because I have a big horse, who runs up light and has a history of gastric ulcers. Hence she needs ad lib forage.

I decided to try the bigger bales because it was going to be cheaper to use what I wanted and have to throw some out tbh. As it has worked out, I wasted very little.

Our similar size Arab is out all day and comes in at night and has one and a bit sections in hre haynet, lasts her about 5 days and she's looking well enough on it.

I agree with Persephone, see if you can find some medium sized bales. I buy 220kg bales for my girl as she eats about 17kg in 24 hours.
