Does anyone else feed hot tea? I'm the only one on my yard who does so, but it is something I've always done and Ellie actually glares at me when I feed her cold dinner!

I dont necessarily mean bran mash; I used to feed this when we had our own yard, but no longer have any space to store a big bag, so now I just give Ellie her normal mix (build-up mix, alfalfa chaff and sugar beet) with warm water instead of cold

It is such a good idea..i have thought many times of doing the same thing but wasnt sure how he would react, just because horses wernt designed to eat warm food.
but now that i know other do it, i might give it a shot. hehe x

Sometimes we do, but not always. I don't think ours mind too much, in all honesty I don't think he has a facial expression for 'I'd like a hot tea please'

Maybe will tonight though.....

Have taken a flask with me for the last few days to add hot water to feed...let it cool and fed,and 'Yes' agree I'd hate a frozen dinner in minus temperatures!!!!!!

Was minus 8 at my Yard this morning!

Mine definitely does, I've been steaming her hay, and she prefers it while it is still hot! She always leaves the cold net until last. I'm sure she understands the benefits of inhaling steam - she must have very clear nasal passages

I used to give mine hot Speedibeet but I found they tended to throw it about even more than usual so now they get it cold (but not frozen)..

The riding school I used to go to had its own barley boiler and the smell of that steaming away is almost like newly baked bread! It was often fed warm (not hot!) to the horses straight from the boiler and they loved it.

Used to work at a yard where one of the liveries insisted that one of her horses prefered a warm feed and the other prefered it wth cold water, this was August. And she used to appear occasionally at feed time to check!

I did do up until last year! We're really pushed for space at the yard now though, and I no longer have the means to store the bran; I'm lucky enough to fit my three bags of feed in, let alone another one! But I love feeding bran mash, and totally disagree with the new-fangled notion that it is bad for the horse

I take a 6 pint milk carton from home with piping hot water. By the time I get to the yard it's just a nice temperature to mix his Fast Fibre with. He does seem to appreciate it although maybe I'm kidding myself, it may just be that it keeps my hands warmer whilst mixing it all together. Either way, it's something I've always done in the really cold weather.

Yep, Melly has hers hot too! I love warm bran mashes, esp mixed with boiled barley and linseed - the shires whould be bellowing for that whilst I mixed it!! x
