I was off work all last week so this lovely weather was fine, this morning however I was back to work so turned out early. There was a decent frost and ice on my windscreen and gates.
So I took neck covers off but left rugs on. Just got home an hour ago to pull them off and one in particular was dripping but all too hot.
I can find lighter rugs and suppose it’s not for long they will be cold but it’s a bit of a pita!
Little ex racer was miserable ☹️ I’m not sure I have anything thinner than the 100g he was in to fit but equally he has no coat for t/o naked when temps are low seems harsh!

I also took the plunge to de-rug 24/7 last week. Big lad is looking a little too well and the little Welsh has the best coat I've ever seen. Neither are clipped though.

It is hard when working but like Peter I'd rather they were on the cold side than too hot. As long as they have plenty to eat and are moving around. My exracer is out naked today, it didn't seem quite right this morning but she's got a good coat on her and she's a hot horse. By now even in her 50g I know she'd be sweating!

Mine is now out unrugged 24/7. Rather see a horse a bit chilly overnight if the owner does not have time to go twice a day than these poor animals still rugged up who must be baking in this beautiful weather!

Absolutely this.
I'm ok with mine getting a bit cold between midnight and early doors, than her dripping in a rug.

Over the weekend it was still far too warm to rug at 5 or 6pm (IMHO)

My out of work ones have been naked for most of the winter, those clipped and in work are out unrugged during the day, rugged at night, I did feel a bit mean turning one out in the frost this morning but it soon warmed up and she is now enjoying the sun on her back so while she may have been a bit chilly for the first hour it seems better than too hot for even longer.

It's warming up so quickly I'm stripping them off with their breakfast. I actually felt bad rugging up at 6pm last night but I knew it was heading for minus 3

Mine's out naked now and has been for a while, just has an irish clip and plenty of hay with some grass growing through, and i'd rather he be a little chilly at night than too hot :)

Chuck out naked at 7am with hay in the field (both fully clipped). If they're cold they can move a bit! Bring in between 6 and 7pm after work and put 100 gr on one and 200 gr on t'other overnight but no necks. It's cold at night but no wind here and when I do last check at 11.30pm they are both toasty and happy.

mine is naked every day, has been for the last week or so. I put a 50g on over night just because it has dropped below 4 and has been misty. Rug comes off at 6.30 when its still 1-2 degrees but he is happy to have it off. The last two days he has been a bit sweaty around his bum without a rug on so can only presume his coat alone is a bit warm in this heat (he still has his winter clip)

where i am right now it is 16 degrees, i cant father a horse that would NEED a rug in 16 degrees, no wind and bright sunshine, but i've never been around a chilly horse.

It's so warm in the sun today the unclipped ones are sweating just grazing naked.
I think it's more of an issue with freshly full clipped horses and I'll sometimes put a very light rug on but don't see any need for my unclipped ones to be rugged unless it's cold lashing with rain and windy.
When I was a child horses weren't rugged at all if not clipped, now everything seems to wear a rug.

No fill rugs - my helper isn't yet used to taking off/putting on on these big chaps so when she is doing them they have to stay the same 24/7. However I nipped in and removed them at lunch time today and surprisingly they weren't sweating under them. Bit cold at nights so I will replace them at tea time but they have plenty to eat to keep them warm and the WBx could do with shedding a little weight

Exactly what I’m doing, felt bad putting clipped pony’s 100g on for overnight turnout last night but knew it’d be cold! I took them all off this morning at 7 as they had a pile of haylage to keep them warm for a couple of hours.
If they’ve got food in their bellies that will keep them warm until the sun takes over.

mine are in 200g no necks in the day (out) and come in and have 180g stable rugs on, swapped for 300g at about 8pm and then legs wrapped at about 11pm.

one fully clipped and one in summer coat(never grew a winter coat)

because they've been well rugged all winter they are not too hot in a MW currently so i dont need to stress about the sunny spells :)

I have fully enjoyed the liberation that not rugging at all brings lol. I've had to stop myself on a couple of occasions but my lot have all been totally rug free all winter. Lucky that this has been doable as appreciate there are those that this doesn't work for.
Ironically now it's nicer the Shetland has now had to go into this fly rug - sweet itch sufferer :(

I pity any horse rugged in weather like this. Apart from anything else, the sun on their coats is invaluable. One of mine is now naked and will remain so until it rains again when she'll go back to 50g and the other is in 100g overnight (5.30pm-7.30am). The 2 youngsters remain naked except in extreme relentless cold rain

200g rugs at night, and rain sheets during the day.

It was really warm this morning, but when the sun went in this afternoon the temperature dropped markedly..

They are all partially clipped, and have been in 200g rugs all winter.

Mine are all naked night and day at the moment. I was slightly worried about leaving Six's rug off overnight to begin with, because his PPID means he's not great at regulating his own temperature, but he's perfectly happy whilst it's dry like this and holding his weight nicely. Haven't had a moment's worry over the others - in fact, we've had a couple of days where Flowet and Tudor have been slightly sweaty just standing in the field!

Badly! Can't seem to make a rug choice I'm happy with a few hours later no matter what I do

They went out naked in the frost at 7 this morning, even though I'd just ridden little mare in an exercise sheet as she was cold. But glad I left them with nothing on this afternoon. At night pssm horse is in a 200g still and I'm putting a summer sheet or nothing on little mare. Naked in the day.
