How are people rugging?!

I’m lucky enough to work just down the road from the yard so I’ve just nipped over at lunch to whip my boys rug off for a few hours - the car is reading 18 degrees and it is glorious blue skies, warm and hardly any breeze.

Down to 4 degrees last night and he is clipped apart from legs and small saddle patch so in a 180g overnight and then out in a lightweight sheet in the day, with rug off in the afternoon if sunny and warm. Don't mind it being a bit cool first thing as I really have to watch his weight coming into spring.
 
All naked! Mine go out at 6am and yes its a little chilly, but by 8am its perfectly warm. I would always rather my horses be a little chilly than to overheat!! Far easier for them to warm themselves up that cool themselves down wrapped up in a rug.
 
Mine are fully clipped and are turned out unrugged between 8 and 9 having had some hay for breakfast. In their back on track rugs with Thermatex over when they come in over night. Yes, it is a little chilly when they go out but the sun is up and there is hard,y a breeze.
 
Naked at present. They are stabled overnight.
One is 23yo, unclipped, holding his weight well and in good form.
Other is 16yo, was blanket clipped, came into winter a bit podgy and is looking pretty good now.
It is chilly for me in the mornings, but the horses are more than comfortable.
 
Unrugged completely now. Realistically, the frost is not forming until 2-4am and as the sun rises it's back up above freezing.

20 degrees here. No rugs.

Unless a horse is fully clipped (in which case you should be duty-bound to remove rugs when too hot and replace when too cold as you are now effective THE regulator), they shouldn't need a rug and they have enough forage and roaming room.

Wasn't a vet advising about over-rugging in UK?
 
Ive taken my horses rugs off completely, never have I ever done that in a winter in NE Scotland! It was 18 degree today here so absolutely too warm for a rug especially as one in particular stilll has his thick winter coat. Its forecast for 4 degrees and sleat here next week so we're making the most of it before the rugs go back on.
 
I ride mine in the morning so I pull rugs off at around 11 then my hubby pops them back on when he drives home from work around 5. Two are in 200g over night and one in 100g. They’re inside over night and fully clipped

I've taken them off. Unless it gets very cold I'll leave them off. The weather has been so unpredictable the last few years, nothing would surprise me.
 
It's currently warm enough for a long sleeve for most and a short sleeve if you've braver.

Had a hard frost with ice on waters this morning. They're in rugs they're comfy in. Bruce is the hottest with the most coat, Nova just isn't bothered by the weather and Fig is a wuss.

They're happy, I'm happy. No need to pity my ponies in rugs!
 
My fully clipped madam is enjoying the sun on her back in the field during the day - rugged at night in stable - we are making the most of it while it lasts - it's promised to get colder again soon I think 😏

Woohoo - another snowcap. He's lovely. Fat Appy waves a hoof. Actually she'd probably do more than that given how she was flirting with the boys this morning. 20 degrees = tart apparently.

Poor M is melting in his winter woollies. Last year he was out in snow at the end of Feb.
 
Mine is fully clipped and since saturday has been naked 24/7. He will have a rain sheet on tonight as it is supposed to rain here.

He is a very Hot pony and the heaviest he has had on all winter has been a 200g fill (Medium weight). When It went really cold for a few days I popped a HW (350g fill) on him but he came out in a heat rash so was stripped back to the medium weight.
 
Mine has hunter clip which hasn’t grown out yet. She has been out 24/7 for the last two weeks. She has a 100g combo on at 6.30pm and then it gets taken off at 8/8.30am. I didn’t take rug off until 9am today however there was still frost on the ground so hadn’t warmed up much. Poor pony was absolutely covered in hives and felt boiling under rug. Hives had gone after a few hours. I wouldn’t even have a l/w on a horse in this weather! It would be like us wearing an anorak which I’m pretty sure nobody would on a day like today!
 
I actually got our three guys rugs off completely yesterday, so they had a lovely naked time in the sun......

Got their 200g rugs on overnight, and we have freezing fog this morning, so they will be keeping these on..

Fully clipped (two weeks ago) and naked during the day unless raining and was in a sheet over night as getting down to 1/2 but now it’s warmer at night naked at night too
Hot cob who is dropping weight nicely ready for spring
