how away is your yard from home

As the post says really, I am thinking of moving but its an extra 15mins in the car. Just wondering how you get on with the travel and distance overtime does it become tedious, this place is actually in the village where I work so could have benefits. Thx

Out of my 5 livery clients, two of them live an hour away from my yard. They have been with me for more than 3 years each. Personally though, the longest I have lived away from my horses is 30 minutes and I found it a strain.
 
5 miles so about 20 minutes cycle or 20 minute drive (this is Cambridge after all). I'm totally DIY though so have to be pretty close as am up there two or three times every day :)
 
4 and a bit miles - 15 minutes. Again, DIY, have to go there 2-3 times a day and it costs in petrol. I wouldn't be further than 15 minutes away really.

yes thats what I am worried about and the strain, at the moment they are just up the lane so can nip up whenever, The problem is the farmer I rent from is having his set aside subsidies cut soon and will want to plough up the field which I have loved, but the new filed is 9acres all to myself with field shelter rented from the national trust
 
Sorry no help, kept at home, 20 sec walk.

However when my old boy was on loan and had to take him back, before he could come home it was a good 1/2 hour and it was difficult, especially as I checked twice daily every day no matter what the weather
 
Walked into our utility from the kitchen and met our NF coming in the door from outside yesterday.

I'd say there would be an advantage on the days you are working in that you can go there from work, thus saving time, but disadvantage on the weekends when not working. Likewise you'd probably not be able to pull a sickie and then go for a ride...

mine is on self livery 1 mile from my house... If i had to move again i would try to aim for somewhere on the way to work! At the weekends i can cycle up there if i have time or take the car if im busy, and during the week i call him to see him on the way to work and on the way home... perfect for me!
 
12 miles...takes 15 mins by car. They used to be in walking distance but there was no turnout in winter.

However, the yard is planning to build 3 log cabins on site at the yard, and we are going to move into one of them....bliss!!!
 
It's only 10 minutes in the car and all main roads apart from the little lane that actually leads to the yard. Thankfully its managable in the snow and the farmers are out clearing the lane in the tractor/snow plough!! phew.
 
Precisely 7 minutes drive from home. Precisely 35 minutes drive from my work. Go up twice a day every day as am on DIY as well. It isnt any great problem, and we just get on with it. Last yard we were 30 minutes away from home and 45 minutes from work. However, were on full livery so no great issue. Have been there for 5 years and dont want to go anywhere else. Hope this helps.
 
2.5 miles but .5 of that is the farm track to get to the field! even at that distance the snow and ice can be a pain because they don't grit the roads on our housing estate!! the back road to the farm is always gritted because one of the gritter drivers lives that way:D farthest away i've liveried is about 6 miles, 10 mins drive down back lanes.
 
Im a 5-6 min drive away, DIY, lovely stables, nice big arena, all year grazing and help if i need it to turnout or bring in at no extra cost. I feel a bit spoilt now reading it in print, also hay/haylage on site as well as shavings. Yep deffo a good place
 
20 minutes - but he's on full livery so I only generally go up there once a day (and then only at weekends b/c I'm working during the week). We had him on DIY a good 20 minutes away and it was a royal pain in the rear to take 40 minutes out of my day, twice a day, just getting to him. I found it really cut into my riding time - by the time I'd poo picked, groomed him, fed him, mucked out, etc., there wasn't that much time to ride. Now, though, all I do is show up, groom him/tack him up, hop on and ride :). I could actually call ahead and they would groom him and tack him up for me, but I prefer to do it myself.

3 miles - about 7 minutes by car which is fine for me. The only thing is we're in a hilly area which is lovely, but not fun in the snow and ice last winter. Ok(ish) getting down to the yard, but tricky coming home. I personally wouldn't choose to be more than 10 minutes from a DIY yard.
 
1.5 miles which on a good day can take me 4 mins or a 20min walk. Haven't been here for a winter yet so will be nice to be able to walk to him if it snows badly
