Don't be tempted to force that longed for huge growth spurt, because the only huge thing you might get is a vet bill !
Agree, even consistent growth is desired.
My gelding was ‘turned away’ on poor pasture with no additional feed/minerals from 4-18 months. (Not by me) The turn out was good for bone density, but due to poor nutrition bone and muscle growth was stunted.
At 18 months he was 12hh when i got him and supplemented mineral deficiencies of pasture, not protein, and topped up the (relatively poor) pasture diet with great mixed hay...still low protein.
He started putting on even weight and height slowly up to 5yrs and is now, at 7, just shy of 16hh, from a 14.2 dam and 15.3 stallion.
Some 24 month old tb’s i see that are 16hh are frankly, worrying to see. It boggles my mind what was fed to get them to that build so quickly.
