How could they do that?

They weren't allowed to take their animals.

We had friends there and their options were leave the animals and get rescued and hope they could come back for them later or stay with the animals be stranded and die.

Just a side note. That third dog looks just like Abe.

there's one dog that looks like he's still TIED-UP to his kennel! how sad is that, his owners could surely have untied him before leaving him!

Hell would freeze over before I ever left my dog. I just couldn't do it it would haunt me forever and i'd rather go with him if it came to it.

TBH I 'do' feel more sorry for the humans who lost their lives but it is still sad for the dogs of course. They do have a better survival instinct than we do, they can run faster, hide better.
Re the tying up, it is one of the many reasons I don't like seeing dogs tied up to anything!

There was a huge problem with fighting dogs who were left behind who were nigh on impossible to even catch, never mind rehab/rehome. But a lot of people were dedicated to that cause and there was a huge rescue effort for dogs, please don't think nothing was done in the aftermath.

There should be a warning with this video! Not to watch when supposed to be working now sat here at my desk trying not to blubber.

My animals are part of our family how could you leave them behind but I understand that they weren't allowed to take them, I just couldn't do it.

But I suppose unless if you are in that situation yourself you can't really understand!

I would have stepped off the bus and started walking out instead. But I am lucky enough to be young, fit, healthy and childless so I won't judge those placed in an impossible position:(

To the bureaucrats who forced people into that position - shame, shame, shame on you:mad:

There where sevral who i think where still tied up. That realy mad me mad. They where lucky if there area had flooded they would not have stood a chance :(.

I'm not going to watch the video but I get the gist of it from the other replies.

Just wanted to say that my children's life and safety - if it ever came to that - are a higher priority over the dogs - as much as it pains me to say that.

However, I think if anyone were unfortunate enough to experience a major catastrophe and survived with your family in tact but left your animals behind to suffer - it would haunt you forever.

My dogs are never tied up - not really so much a culture in this country - but they are in a secure pen during the day and I doubt they would be able to escape - which of course was the point of it in the first place!
