so how did you find out that you owned your horse?
in my case, it was my birthday and i got all my presents ect. and my mum said i had one more special present so she gave me this big box and i opened it, and it had my ponies passport in it and i'm thinking, what is this, and then my mum told me i owned tucker(a gorgeous pony that i used to loan) and i gave them a big hug and started crying:D:o and then i rushed to the stables and gave him a massive kiss:o:p
what about you?:)

Yup, same here. Serious wad of cash handed over in every case except where the seller wanted bank transfer.

with my first pony i went up to the stables on christmas day (i was loaning him at the time), went in to see him and all the other horses had been moved out the barn. his stable was all decorated with tinsel and he had a big gold bow on him. on his stable door was "a letter from santa" telling me how cav was mine to keep forever (would have been forever ever if he wasnt 12.2 :( ) and i was so happy i cried! was the best day of my life haha.

when i got fox i just used the money from selling cav, so there wasnt much surprise in that!

When I got a call from the vet to say that she had passed! I had been through 4 failed vettings beforehand so I was ecstatic. Then spoke to her old YO who said "oh I can bring her up tonight if you want" and went into mad planning/buying frenzy to get ready for her. I did then have to hand over an envelope full of money, but to me it was hearing that she had passed and was coming up that was the moment she was mine :)

When I exchanged a large number of crisp 20s for her paperwork.

My husband however, found out when he stepped out the back door and saw a pretty little dark head he'd not seen before looking at him over the stable door...

My first pony was mine the second I saw his advert! I fell in love and knew I was going to have him no matter what. He was c rap to ride, couldn't jump, was lazy, but my god was he gorgeous! He cost me an arm and a leg and came with nothing, so my other arm and leg were spent buying EVERYTHING a horse and rider needed. We worked hard over the years and he was amazing. We did a bit of everything including x country and jumping.

My pony now was very cheap due to many issues. I went to see him and I wasnt keen. He was obese, nervous, bargy, his feet were terrible and he was smelly! The lady tacked him up and chucked her 5 year old daughter on him and off they went up the estate (he was being kept in an allotment on a housing estate!) I got on him and he was brilliant, perfect gentleman to hack. That was the minute I knew :) Barted her down a little more and got a real bargain, he is a lovely pony and I will never sell him x

This is at the allottment when I went to view him

And this is him now (100 kg lighter and less smelly :p)

the first one would be when we went to the yard and after riding the 3rd pony brought out mum said the magic words we'll have her :p I was 11 at the time. Still got her 8 years later :D
My very own horse I paid for myself well, I knew the minute I handed over the money and got her on the box! :D

First one when I went into the bank and took the money out for the horse my head said wasn't worth the purchase but my heart chose rather than the money for the one I was meant to be putting money down on.

The second when she broke my hand. Went from a horse OH was going to send off as had no attachment to and was a horrible little thing which attitude at both ends (he inherited a load of unhandled horses from a sick relative who became ill after breeding and then passed away a few years on), to saying in the hospital that I had to keep her now as in that second rather than reacting to the lound snap and a leadrope being lobbed at her so it didn't end up under feet, she stood for OH to sort out as calm as anything and has been fiercly protective of me since.

The others came as part of the package with OH.

My daughter found out that she had a pony on xmas day when we went out to the' shed 'to find her present and found that part of the shed had been made into a stable and there was a pony inside :) x

Did a bank transfer for latest one. So when I got the text saying they had received it, he was mine. Was on sales livery at my yard, so I had been riding him for a few weeks anyway.

When i went to view her and had finished looking at her and went to have alook at her sister who was also for sale but Swallow decided she wanted me to take her so followed me over to her sister and tapped my on the shoulder I knew then she was mine :) she came to my yard two days later

My first pony, I stayed round my friends for the night, came home the next morning, my dad gave me a red headcollar, I was a bit confussed as we wern't very well off but i'd been begging for this pony for weeks as it belonged to another friend who was selling him. He said those magic words HE's YOURS - I cried, jumped, squeeled, kissed, cuddled etc.

Then cried even more when it took 2 weeks and about 10 people to catch the bl**dy thing :)

That was 30 years ago now.

My parents stuck a poster up on my wall with a photo of him asking me to "be his valentine".

With my newest horse, my dad sent me a text to say the vet had passed him.

With one of current horses the trainer said "glad you like him I'll drop him off next week"

This was after a five minute introduction when he had just come out of racing. No pennies exchanged though so at least it wasn't a shock and painful :D

With the latest addition it was when the seller wouldn't be knocked on price and I still found myself saying OK I want her - she was over budget

I am a full time nursing student and sold my last horse to go to uni, so wasn't actively looking but wanted something to ride.

Ended up taking a lovely cob mare on part loan. I ended up doing a lot with her, rode most days, bought feed/paid for farrier etc, so was more like a full loan.

Me and her owner, S, got on really well. She also had a 2yo (at the time) Beeston reject. She had said I could help out with him too but wasn't too fussed (don't like babies! Too much work!)

Bring it to summer 2012. Baby was 3 and S wanted him breaking in. I offered to do it and started helping with the groundwork. When I finally sat on his back, I was in love with him. We also had so much trust in eachother. I was the first person to sit on him. I'd never sat on a (literally) freshly backed horse before either so was a pretty big moment.
I carried on, hacking him out, buying things for him, treating him as my own.

I then kept joking, saying I'd buy him if he was ever up for sale. S then began looking at youngsters but knew she couldn't afford 3. One day I was messing around talking about it and she said 'Yeah, ok then, you can have him'. My face was

So yeah, went from not having anything to do with horses for 3 years while I focused on my studies and had an active social life didn't work. I'm now poor and have annual nights out, but Miloh is worth every penny :)
