How do i look?!

What a lovely pony :)

You tip forward in the saddle so try and sit up tall like you have a smelly fish under your chin and push your right shoulders back. Sit proud!

The second time you trot you are on the wrong diagonal (you are sitting when his inside front leg hits the floor and it should be the opposite) so you need to sit for two beats when this happens.

The trot itself needs a bit more impulsion but the ground looks very slippery and is on a slight slope so will make it harder for pony to work correctly.

Also be careful your lower leg doesn't slip back too much (this is connected to your body tipping forward) so make sure your heel is down, foot pointing forward and your shoulder, hip, heel are in one vertical line. This will help when you sit up straight and vice versa.

Hope this helps you a bit

Yes, the vid is a bit jerky, it was difficult to see what pace you were going at. It looked at one point as if your pony broke into canter and had a bit of a hooley, so well sat. Is there a reason you were on the lunge rather than 'going large'? The only reason I ask is that personally I hate riding on the lunge as it makes me dizzy and I find riding in continual smallish circles tends to force your seat to the outside - I suppose it's centrifugal force! That's probably just me though!

thanks for your feedback. :D
unfortunately the field isnt really flat so wherever we use is going to be on a slope :( and we didnt want to trash the only flat bit as that is our spring/summer grazing!!
i was on the lunge as Mouse would have cantered straight back to the other 2 horses if he wasnt!! it also meant i could try and concentrate more on my position.
thanks once again xx

Sweet pony - may I ask if there is any particular reason you've got a grackle noseband on him?

its his owners choice. he has been known to cross his jaw, drop his shoulder and spin. its done up very loosely just as a reminder not to cross his jaw ect but it doesnt really do anything, its just there as a reminder!!

My concern was seeing the child in the middle as well as the person lungeing, if anything was to go wrong it could be dangerous, they could get in the way and prevent the pony from being brought under control easily. Please ask them to watch from somewhere else so that full concentration can be on you and the pony.

You tip forward a little especially in the transitions, try and sit to the first few strides of trot this will help your balance.

Hello :) I was the one lunging little fat pony.

H (lizzie's brother) was with me so I could explain to him what mouse was doing as he was riding Mouse afterwards. I usually wouldn't have people with me.

CC is good so far :) not the ideal place to lunge but, as Lizzie said, we didn't want to trash the rest of the field!!

I wondered when you were gonna comment!! :D :P Lol

Thanks everyone :)

I've been telling Lizzie to sit up more (she's improved a LOT recently) which helped her to stay on when mouse did his mini-rear, complaining act.

Mouse is NOT an easy pony to ride and is never to be under-estimated but Lizzie is, I think, riding him well - quietly but knowing what she wants to do and how to get him to do it.

When the field is less slippery I'll take her stirrups away and see how she goes :)

This is a vid I took a few months ago. It's shocking quality. Lunging and filming at the same time is not easy!!!

It's on a flatter part of the field. One of the first times Liz had ridden mouse and I took her reins and stirrups away. A bit tense in the leg but much more upright :)

Try to keep your shoulders back, and also your outside leg seems to slip back more than your inside one so just try and be quite level with your legs :)

Well sat though :)

What's the back story? The pony looks rather green, so not the easiest if the intention is for the OP to work on her position... I agree with the previous comments about tipping forward and lower leg slipping back - work without stirrups and reins would do the world of good, though as I say, not the easiest if the pony's going to be a twit ;)

Sit up a bit taller, open your shoulders and lift you hands up and that will make a huge difference. With your hands think of having a soft, elastic contact rather than fixing them, and always keep them clear of him it will stop you tipping forward. Just keep thinking hands up. Try to concentrate on keeping you leg underneath you and pushing your weight straight down to the floor, think of having a vertical stirrup leather then you know the weight is going down.

Pony didn't look very helpful, is there no way the person lunging you could get him going properly on a bigger circle so you could focus more on your position as he is just bouncing you about all over the place.

Well sat when he had a bit of a moment :).

Mouse is 19 years old this year!! he really doesnt act his age!!

You seem to be tipping forwards quite a bit. My RI told me to imagine a straight line from head, shoulder, hip and heel. So try that :) You also seem to be carrying your hands low. Lift your hands next time :)

You actually rode better (I think anyway) in the second video, you seem to be sitting up taller and have a better seat.

Sweet Pony, looks like a cheeky chappy though!
