do you re-book as soon as horse is done..
do you book a few weeks before horse is due..
can you ring when due and be certain of a appointment?

I feel quite lucky in that I ring/text mine and will get a appointment for next Thursday regardless of it being one being done or all three :)

One farrier I call the week before a horse is due to book him in for the next week. With my other farrier I arrange the next appointment straight after he has shod my horse, but he is also an airline pilot and a farrier examiner (sure there must be a better term, but you know what I mean!), so he is pretty busy!!!!!

My farrier is very busy so I always book when he's there. If for some reason I'm not there he'll leave a card with my next appointment. He knows G is done 6 weekly so just goes through his diary.

We have to book and then check they are on his list. He is incredibly busy because he is incredibly good. However we are lucky because YO is his best friend so he often comes for a visit and does horses then. I think he'll come in an emergency, but we have never had one *touch wood*

my farrier is very good, therefore very busy so if i don't re-book at each appointment it gives him a major headache to try and squeeze us in!

I book while he is with us as he is very busy and to get the first appointment of the day I have next two appointments booked.

I always have the next 3 or 4 appointments booked, and just double check the dates each time before he leaves. My farrier comes every 6 weeks without fail, so I like to make sure I'm in there before he gets too full.

wish ours would take appointments, we have to ring when its due and then he comes when he can, but also I think he is so busy he looks at who he thinks is most urgent! Where we live in the wilds there are very few farriers and hes a good one so you have to accpt the system! Mind you its not too bad cos one is just a trim (unshod) and the other shod one has very good hooves these days so must be doing ok.

He did come yesterday tho so shiny new shoes!

As soon as my farrier gets his diary for the following year, usually in November, I book through at 7 week intervals for the whole year! It's the only way of being sure of getting regular visits. He is very good and therefore books up quickly and if I was to leave it to booking after each visit I might have to wait longer that the 7/8 weeks that my mare can go. It works and is obviously flexible if we have a problem.

I always like to be organised, the next farrier farrier visit is always booked when he's just finished shoeing our two. We have them done every 6 weeks.

I do the same with EDT & Chiro, every six months but if I feel they are needed sooner I just call & re-arrange. ;)

Wow, I love you guys! My OH tries to book people in when he's there but this ends up with constant texting/ringing when people want to change their appointments/ can't afford to have it done etc and he ends up with horses having to go 12 weeks and then the owners call in a panic because the shoe has grown off and they have a show the next day and the emergency shoeing needs to be done NOW NOW NOW!! Or he turns up when appointment is made for and they are not there, he calls and they are at work/shopping/picking the kids up/on holiday. He's a bit too accomodating to these people I think but he says that at least the horse will not be as uncomfortable if he goes now- even if it's 8pm and he hasn't eaten all day. People who don't budget for their horses to be shod make me mad, if you can't afford to have your horse shod/trimmed every 5-7 weeks then you cannot afford a horse IMO.

Rant over- sorry guys, you are all fantastic!

Like most of you I book in for the next appt when he's with me. I'm luckly tho, if my horse looses a shoe (can be a regular occurence, although touch wood we've been doing well for a while!) I just text him and he usually fits me in within a day or two. I just leave my horse in and my farrier will do him while I'm at work.

An appointment is booked on the day he is shod for the next time, if anything happens inbetween, i txt him and he comes straight away. If something comes up, like going to a show on the date booked he will change it no problem
