How do you clean your saddle cloths?

OK, maybe I'm daft for buying saddle cloths with a white waffle inner...

Any ideas how I can remove the mud stains?

And yes... I do groom before each ride, but T can be a really sweaty pony, and as she doesn't normally wear rugs, she is always dusty, no matter how much I brush and polish ;)
 
These have been through the washer, and come out just as bad :'(

I have a lovely soft, mint green, cloth which is just brown on the underside, and it was only worn twice.

I know no one sees the underside... but I know it's there.

Of course if the answer is to wear only once before washing, it gives me a fabulous excuse to buy more saddle cloths lol!

Actually I was wondering if I could soak them with Vanish OxyAction overnight, do you think that would work?
 
so long as the outside *looks* clean and the inside *feels* clean I don't worry :D we have a yard washing machine so everything goes in there.
 
Put it this way...OH's white shirts currently on the washing line have a very noticeable chestnut tinge to them this morning.

I did have a go at removing the hair with the dogs brush first!
 
Washing machine. At this time of year, when his coat is coming out in handfuls, then I *may* hoover the inside of it first, if I remember.

I have red hair, usually kept fairly short. The OH has never had the temerity to ask if the ginger hairs on his clothes are mine or the horse's.
 
I brought a Horsewear wash bag .. big orange material bag with zip. I put saddle pads and the dogs vet beds inside it with a couple of capsules and into the washing machine. It then gets dried on the line inside out to get rid of all the hair/ hay etc and saves my washing machine. It was one of the best £10 or something I've spent on horsey related stuff and well worth the investment.

I would never use a numnah a 2nd time if it was dirty/ sweaty. I just put them in the washing machine a couple at a time. If you put too many in, they don't wash properly. Also if you use them lots of times before washing, they are going to be much dirtier and the dirt will be ingrained and much harder to get clean.

If I could fit one saddle cloth in my washer I'd be happy... but I can't. And I can't afford 7€ a pop to wash them at the coin-op, so I normally do about 10 at a time in the high capacity (20kg) washer.

I never use them "lots of times", 2-3 max, depending on how sweaty the pony gets. Sometimes it is only the once, if they get wet through.
 
I wash mine in the machine at home.

First, I de-hair them with the HandsOn wash gloves from Horse Health - they are AMAZING for getting hair and scurf off of saddle pads! I have used them for this more than anything else! I do this at the yard before bringing them home.

I fold them so they are inside out and wash them individually. A 30 degree* quick wash is usually sufficient, even for my competition white squares.

This works really well so have had no complaints from OH and no white hair on all our clothes (from the washer, anyway! I get covered when I'm at the yard, regardless!).

*I have washed one square on a 60 degree wash once as there were some stubborn stains I wanted rid of... they came out, and the pad survived but needed some gentle reshaping as the binding had shrunk a little! I'd only do a hot wash again if really desperate.
 
If you can't wash them in machine until you get loads, then just fill a trug with warm soapy water after untacking, shove saddle cloth in, give a bit of a scrub and hang to dry. I would use Mini Mir in France to wash. If you do it every time you won't get stains.

I have one of these too and agreed it's brilliant.
I wash my wool lined saddle cloth and girth sleeve in it every week and they always come up well and the bag catches all the hair, then I just comb the wool to fluff it back up and remove any other stubborn hairs.
I do use a brown saddle cloth though with brown wool. Not sure I could face a white one!?
 
Mine go in the washing machine.

If I have any with marks on, especially if they are white, I pressure wash, soak in Vanish, and then wash in the machine.
 
I washed 3 saddle pads and a half pad yesterday on a quick 28 min wash and all but 1 load came out perfect so I just chucked it back in again for another quick wash and it was fine 😁 Now I need to remember to run an empty wash to clean it out before I put normal clothes through it again 😂😂
 
I'm informally banned from washing them in the washing machine so just fill a massive trug with boiled water and throw a detergent capsule in. Leave for half an hour and then scrub with a huge hard dandy brush. I pop them on the washing line after to air dry and they come up like brand new everytime :)
