As above ^

It so cold, even wearing 5 layers including long thermals I still get freezing. Especially when riding. Used a friends fleece lined exercise rug (done up over my legs) which was fantastic. :)

Does anyone know of something that can wrap round me and drape over my legs whilst I'm hacking? Excercise rug is too big really as I don't want my horse covered too much. :)

No use to you whatsoever but now horsefree I have 3 cushions a mug of tea and a cat that stretches across my lap like a large heated duvet.

If I am lucky I can peel it off and leave it on the sofa to make more tea then lift it back up and place it in position.

i'm comming over. Get the kettle (and the cat) back on.....:D

4 layers consisting of thermals, a thin fleece, a thick fleece and a musto jacket, fleece neck warmer, Ariat Grasmeres or muck boots, 2 pairs of socks and 2 fleecy gloves :( still bleddy freezing. The worst bit is my index finger on my right hand, I got badly bitten by a dog and have scar tissue, riding at the moment is sooooo painful as that finger gets really cold and then starts to ache and sting - only managed to ride one for 1/2 hour in the school today as it was so bad :( still, on the bright side it makes me forget my dodgy left hip :o

I have my first medium test in two weeks and am really really hoping the weather gets warmer, I will have enough problems without losing the use of my right hand

At the end of last winter Lidls had some (mens) motorcycle thermal gear going very cheap, so I bought it; wore it today hacking and its ab-fab, really kept my little bottie very warm, plus some Musto thermal gloves and ski socks. On top of the thermal top I wear a thin silk top, then a lightwear fleece, plus on my head a Snug Hood - www.Snug-Gear.co.uk - these things are well worth the money so get them on your Chissy list asap. I was freezing, really cold, especially my fingers this morning, until I put this on, and within 5 mins I was lovely and warm. You can lose up to 25% of heat through your head, so it makes sense to keep it warm and affects the rest of you, as I found this morning.

On top of this all I wore an Equafleece endurance top - and was warm once we'd got going. Horse wears one of their fleece quarter sheets too, so his little bottie was nice & warm too! Aw bless.

layers!! proper layers from a shooting/hiking outfit not equestrian rubbish!! Always use a microfibre base layer and windproof top layer, and wear a hat as you lose lots of heat through your head!

I always went for lots of thin layers with the base layer being thermal vest and thermal long johns couldnt beat them. My riding coat was rubbish because although it had a snuggly lining the cold wind made the fabric cold and I froze brhhhh it just makes me cold thinking about it.

Oh and the minute you get in the house hot bath and hot drink.

I may just be hot blooded, but I find I'm fine with a tank top, fleece and hoody, then just tracksuit bottoms and 1 pair of thick (ski) socks. Oh, and a pair of fingerless gloves with normal gloves underneath. I was toasty (too warm yesterday with an extra layer on), whereas there were people at the stables with about 6 layers on who were freezing, so maybe you can wear too many layers?

Don't put too many socks on as you can't move your feet so they won't be getting blood so will just get cold, same with gloves.

I'm reaaaalllly nesh! Usually i'll wear a t-shirt, long sleeved rugby top, a hoodie, a fleece over the hoodie and a coat. (Then scalf, 3 pairs of socks, hat ontop of that) by the time i've mucked out i'm boiling though!

I suffer with cold hands, and have found a couple of ways to help - and I've not had cold hands at all these last few days.

Way 1 - wear a pair of surgical gloves underneath my lovely Roeckl Windstopper gloves (of which I have 2 pairs!)

Way 2 - wear a bodywarmer under your coat, have one pair of gloves in the pockets to warm up against your body heat while wearing another pair of gloves. When your hands become a bit cold, swap the ones on your hands for the warm ones from your pocket and warm the cold pair up in the pockets again.

I also love my Rambo fleece lined chaps, Ariat Grasmeres and lots of layering.

I managed to stay quite cosy today! I wore an old rugby top and jeans with a horseware gillet and my shires coat on, two pairs of socks and my mountain horse rimfrost boots and i was toasty all bar the tops of my legs! It seemed odd I was warmer outside in -5 then I was in the house when i took the coats and boots off lol
I still looked like mitchlein man tho haha :D

In the yard working most of the day.
Tight t shirt, polo shirt, fleece, puffa jacket.
Cheap Thinsulate woolly hat.
Cheap Thinsulate woolly gloves.
My new Muck Boots.

Not cold at all today. (Minus 5 this morning)
