How do you ride?
With my instuctors I've always been told I have a more showjumping position when I just ride normally. (I was a showjumper kiddy when I was younger so it's probably still influences me) where as my friend has a stereotypical pony club position and riding style.
So what's your normal style?

Show jumper too, but that is what I do lol! Saying that, when I have ridden in a dressage saddle for a few sessions and got used to the whole long stirrups situation again, I can ride in a fairly neat dressage position (although my showjumpers elbows and hands still let me down :( )

Probably agree with Rhino too, I can have quite a defensive position if I'm on something that needs it

Possibly slightly defensively but I tend to be riding the horses other people won't  :D

Haha Rhino. You and me both. I am often to be found in the 'brace position' but it's usually for a good reason!

Years of other people's rejects, backing my own and race horses has taught me not to worry too much about sitting pretty and to sit tight instead.

I would summarise my style as slightly defensive, reasonably effective and pretty blooming ugly!

i dont really have a style... i can get horses to work for me but i look like a sack of spuds doing so, got some awful habits :o and tend to ride short in a dressage saddle and long in a gp but jockey style in a jumping saddle :o - what a weirdo i sound like, im just useless at riding in dressage saddles :(

No style at all?! I tend to be in about the right place at about the right time most of the time, but neither effective nor stylish!

I don't really know what each 'style' encompasses- anyone fancy explaining?!

Same as the Xmas Furry. I can get a result, but I don't look the part - I always look messy. I am so envious of tall people with skinny legs who just look so good on any horse they sit on!

Def wouldnt want my riding style described, as I dont think I could take it,lol :o.

However, I have a knack of sticking on.....and that goes pretty high up on my list of importants :p

Effective but not pretty :(

^^ this lot :D

i have a more event/ huntery style of riding though, whilst i can do dressage (and reasonably well) i'm not the prettiest of riders.

i don't tend to come off though!! prob once every 10 years about does me, (apart from the one occasion i took the plonker hunting- 3 times in 1 day ilmao!!!) and i tend to prefer the idiot beasties (as above haha!!) :D:D:D

in my defense though, it was drenching rain and the blooming thing lost his brain when he saw hounds ;):D:D:D

Showjumpers elbows and hands are my biggest problems too! A dressage trainer once told me i looked like a toddler needing a wee my hands were so far into my crotch! I am working on it though!

I hack the very steep combes of west Exmoor with long stirrups and dressage saddle. I think I look terribly elegant, but the locals think I look a right prat!
I cannot gallop in said dressage style.....Do dressage riders gallop?

Haha I haven't heard it described as that before but I would agree-I'm the same. Some instructor have said I'd might as well ride sat on my hands at times. Also have the issue of having badly turned in wrists and very open hands (as in reins sat on my fingers and never gripping any more than that)

It works for me though :D

I'm deffinitely one of the "We'll get you some style ONE day, at least you get the job done"
I blame too many years of naughty ponies :D

AND this :D I swear a lot. I proclaim I am going to die frequently. I make noises which can be best equated to some sort woodland creature...

PMSL here.

I too have gained most of my riding experience from equine nutters so whenever I actually get on something that's steady or needs waking up a bit, I struggle to adapt my style from 'sit as still and calm as possible so as to avoid stirring the fizzy beast'!!!!!
I shudder to think what anyone 'proper' would think of what I actually look like on board...in my world, if you could get on and stay on, that was all that counted...still is! ;)
All joking aside I try to go for quiet hands, minimal contact and ride from my seat...but in practice I probably look like a monkey clinging to gibralter rock!!! :D

Damn, I feel so boring. Never swear at horses, just a sharp nudge and oi if their naughty :/. I need to start swearing xD.
Showjumping kiddies tend to have sticky seats since some of the little ponies were buggers! Wish like anything I could ride like a graceful showing person!
