How do you trim chestnuts?

Ask your farrier he should be able to do it for you

saw someone before just get their nail in it and pull with a quick movement

. Me I'd prefer to ask my farrier to do it

I just pickle at them with my finger nails and find an edge where I can tear it off. I am careful not to go too close in and do it at stages. The longer they grow the harder they become and more difficult, so it is easier to keep them neat.

My farrrier does the ergots and chestnuts on my cob - they are huge and rock hard so would be impossible any other way!!

My farrier OH does them for me, but he also quite often does them for my friends' horses as their farrier for some reason doesn't do them
