Decided to get Dizz a Sprenger bit (thanks to the help from y'all on that bit - lol, 'scuse the pun).

Anyhoo, the question is: how do I know which to go for? I've looked at the Sprenger site, but I am sadly non-the wiser. This could be because I am indeed a complete numpt :o :)

She's in the broad barrelled Myler at the moment (I forget the model, but it's one for young horses). She resists the bit when first touched on the mouth after the rider mounts (head goes up quite sharp), and she's not always so steady in the head carriage when asked to downward transition (this can include throwing her head up). She will get the bit and lean on it. She seems to dislike the bit itself, but is no good in anything that puts pressue on her nose(!!!). The other day we had a sustained trot with lovely and soft self carriage - I still grin when I think of it :D.

Brakes on the whole aren't a problem, though we have yet to do anything 'exciting' so that may change lol, obviously we need to work with what she is like now.

Dentist says her mouth is fine. No fitting problems that she can see. Toung and lips are not excessively fleshy.

Hot choccies and Ferro Roches for all useful answers :D :D :D :D :D

I've recently got my lad (16.2hh ID x WB, sensitive in mouth) a dynamic rs loose ring and I've got to say I love it!
He was in a loose ring KK ultra before which was fine but he wasn't quite as soft as I thought he ought to be - he seems to really like the dynamic rs so far!
I don't know if that's any help...?!

What size does Dizz take? I've got a 5 1/2 loose ring snaffle with a lozenge if you wanted to try it? I'm looking at getting her a Universal as well because we need a little more brakes for when we're jumping.

Here MrsM - this is the site you need! :D

It is the bit bank I mentioned to you - phone them and talk to them - they are hugely knowledgable so will guide you through the options - you can also arrange a trial for 10 - 14 days through them:). If you go there (not far from Melton Mowbray) they have more bits than I have ever seen!!:D

But if you do decide to goe there let me know and we can meet up for coffee and cake!!;):D:D:D

When I was debating about which bit to get, I spoke to the lady at the bit bank(can't remember her name) and she was ever so helpful, spent about 20mins talking to me and working out which one she thought would be best and why. I now have a NS on trial for a month to see if it works out, if not I just send it back and only lose out on £5 and postage...
I can't reccommend her highly enough!!

I've lost count of the number of bits that I've tried for my boy. I was finding that loose rings were rubbing his mouth, and most bits slipped to one side. Mylers worked for a while until he started dropping behind and/or getting his tongue over. I bought a Sprenger Dynamic Eggbut about 2 months ago and I'm thrilled with the way he is going in it.
