Just out of interest really. Know there are some very lucky people with their horses at home and yes I am rather jealous, so those of you who have their horses elsewhere, how long does it take you to get there?
Mine are just under 10 minutes drive from my OH's and are about 15-20 minutes from my mum's. It soon racks up the petrol bill!! I personally think they're a bit far from my mum's so it's lucky that I live with my OH! It's the nearest decent yard with a school and with good hacking!!

Mine is about 10-15mins drive away but BF is soon moving to the yard so even better then! There are a few yards in the village I live in but too close to the town and the lanes are used as the rat run so I wouldn't like hacking on them!:)

I grew up with my horses at home, I was very lucky, they were literally in the field surrounding our house. Oh how I wish that was the case now :)
Anyway, I keep my mare 10mins north from my house, not too bad at all really. Work is however 9miles south from home, so yard and work are 14miles apart.
All in all i do about 250miles a week going to and from work and the yard twice a day.

ETS: There is a massive yard 2minutes away, it however has no real safe hacking, would have to use rat runs, no bald paddocks for laminitics, just big open fields, mixed herd turnout over winter, pretty expensive. Shame really as it would be fab to have the yard that close

The boys are exactly 4 miles from home, so about 5 mins in the car. Dolly is about 10 minutes away, but is on our own little yard with my friends mare, who is also in foal. They are about 2 minutes from my friends house. A few years ago when the horses were on the same yard and before I moved house, they were about 40 minutes away.

4 miles, basically an hours walk (no car for me, medically unfit :(). Really was the most important consideration for me as public transport isn't always reliable, certainly wouldn't of been able to get me there in the early morning/late at night and on a sunday ... pah! Actually i'm totting it up now, that's 16 miles a day

2.5 Miles up a little windy lane so takes 5 mins. There is a yard in my village 200 yards from my cottage which has better hacking but no school and very limited facilities so I choose to have them in the next village at a better equiped yard.

You spend 4 hours a day just walking back and forward to your horse?? WOW

Mine is 15 mins by car!

is jealous of ppl that have there horse 5-10mins away! Mines a 30 mins drive if im luckly with traffic as goin through nottingham aint the best at times and is bout 15miles.

But soon to move house so will be closer thank god! hate being so far away!

15 miles from home - about 25 minutes drive. But about 200m from my mum's and with a 10 month old baby that's a pretty good arrangement ;-) I live in a large town with probably some of the ropiest livery yards going (and all of those are at least a 10 minute drive away) so I made the decision last year to move him 'back home' with fantastic hacking and 3 competition venues within 30 minutes hack. Its a fair compromise.

BUT, the first thing I'd buy if I ever won the lottery would be a house with paddocks and stables straight outside - just like we lived in when I was little and took completely for granted.

good..you are so lucky some of you having your horses close to home.. I live in london and it takes me 1 hour and a quarter each way..when there is traffic.. so thats the price I have to pay being in a good place.. I do belive it worth it..going to a good trainer..but I do spend most of my life in the car..

I've never really thought about it before, on really wet/horrible days I do get a taxi but for the price i'd rather stick the music player on, layer up and make sure i'm positively glowing from the amount of reflective gear i'm wearing :o Plus it gives me an excellent excuse not to join the gym.

10 second walk / 40metres away! Bit annoying sometimes when they actually notice when I open the bedroom curtains and then stand at the gate staring into the kitchen waiting for me to get downstairs and give them their breakfast. They watch my every move in the house! (I love it really!)

19 miles from my house and about 25 minutes. Or 45-60 mins drive and 48miles from OH's house both mainly motorways. I only really see OH on weekends and since i only part loan this works out ok, i just go on a friday night and come back on sunday lunch time, heading straight to the yard. Considered asking to full loan him but i wouldn't be able to see the OH then, and i can't afford the petrol. The miles are killing my rickety old car. The current job is half way between home and work, so on the days they match up it only takes 15 mins which is ok.

Mine is 5 miles away, 10 - 15 mins drive. Sooo jealous of people saying they can see their horses from their bedroom window! I need to win the lottery!

Eldest son has just installed such (over the top) lighting in my open plan stables, that I can monitor from my bathroom window every lump and bump - which is a bit scary! The furthest they have been away is a 5 min drive - 10 minute walk - but I know that I am lucky. For those of you have to travel longish distances I am sure you are either with a good livery yard, or have good friends / neighbours to look out for them.

20 miles away - takes 30 minutes to drive. Too far especially in winter and want to move back nearer home if only I could find a suitable yard.
