How have you changed your feeding regime?

With this cold weather horse's either stuck in or out!! Have been having a few chats today regarding OTT horses and calmers etc, turns out many people are not cutting feed down, some are increasing hard feed before hay....
I have been giving mine ad - lib hay, even my good doer, there is nothing for them to pick at, I have separated my girls at feeding time as my youngster needs more than the good doer, and my sec D is only having a scoop of grazon and really sloppy fast fibre, have cut out his nuts totally as he isn't working and turnout is in the school at the mo as my field gate is frozen shut!!!!

Mine are on a basic chaff and sugarbeet (non-sugared variety

), plus ad lib hay or haylage.

They're only getting out in-hand in the school due to having just moved and going straight into two weeks quarantine.
 
Mine is getting more hay, and hay in the field - I have also added horsehage in the past few weeks in an attempt to get her to eat enough fibre as our hay is not very appetising. She also gets more alfa a than usual but haven't cut down hard feed - only gets a tiny scoop of cool mix anyway.

The other horse I look after is getting the same as usual but with more haylage - she doesn't go loopy on her barley + cool mix and had already dropped some condition before the snow set in -this is a useful opportunity to get her to pick up a bit.
 
I've reduced hardfeed to not much more than a handfull of nuts and Alfa, and dropped the conditioning cubes all together. Hay has not increased as he's getting plenty.

He's only been kept in for the one day - however, I'm just not sure when I'll get to ride again given the weather.
 
I haven't. They were already on adlib hay and fibre based feeds which I haven't increased the quantites of. We are still managing to get them out in the field every day for turnout and they come in at night.

ETA Its just them being ridden that's not happening at the moment...

ours are out from 8am till 4am everyday but we are lucky in that the stables open onto the field. they are hardly digging through the snow to the grass so have add lib hay and i'v been giving V an extra handfull or so of basic chaff with his breakfast and supper. just as they are so bored it seems with the hay that they dont seem to be eating as much of it as i'd like. he still looks fab

Mine is having to stay in a lot and not doing any work so I've cut his molassed chaff and hard feed right down, so he's having two small meals a day of 'lite' chaff with apples, carrots and garlic and vits and mins (just to make life more interesting as he loves his food!!), and ad lib hay.
 
I have cut out the cool mix, cut right down on cond cubes, upped the graze on and added bran with hot water to keep the gut moving. Adlib hay. Would be feeding carrots but their frozen!!! Oh and a touch of SB.
 
Mine is getting the same amount of hay as always, couldn't get him to eat more if i tried unfortunately.

Hard feed wise he gets quite a bit normally so all the competiton cubes have been cut out and replace with alfa instead
 
My elderly girl comes in at half 2 for a warm lunch!! Just a scoop of Dengie Extra mix & bailey No 4. But it warms her up & cheers her up! Other than that shes on normal hay & feed, although normal as in enough hay for the afternoon & evening instead of just the evening.
 
Ours are on absolute ad lib hay whereas in less extreme conditions we monitor it a lot more closely. Have also started adding Speedibeet to their feed to make sure they are getting good moisture intake. Other than that on their usual ration of Top Spec and chaff.
 
Haven't changed mine at all. He lives out 24/7 so the yard has been puting big round bale haylage out in the field as they can't get at the grass, but his hard feed is identical - don't think I could give him much less tbh!
 
Mine are out full time, sometimes it is bitter here, so they actually get a lot of short feed plus ad-lib hay. They are all on soaked alfa cubes and soaked oats, apart from the minis (they are both as fat as pigs) who don't get more than a few grains when they are working.
 
mine's been on box rest for a while now - so no real change there (fiber based with no hard feed) but HAVE increased the amount hay somewhat to help her keep warm and have simply left extra nets to be hung in the event that I can't make it to the yard and someone else can!
 
Mine are getting more hay as they've come in over night until the snow has gone. Feeding wise they are getting the same, a handful of Happy Hoof and a vitamin and mineral supplement.
 
My 2 get adlib haylage all the time anyway. But my old mare has never been big on hay so its a struggle to get much down her. As we haven't seen any grass in weeks I have upped her cool mix and sugar beat.
 
i haven't changed mine but they only get 1/4 scoop (dry weight) of fast fibre and a handful of hifi twice a day. and ad lib haylage. hardly over doing the calories.
 
Mine is having 1 conditioning cube and lots of chaff twice a day. He roots around to find the one nut and then stares at me very crossly as he realises there's no more in the feed bowl!! Lots and lots of hay - 6 slices during day and another 6 at night. He is quite happy on it.
 
Mine is on half hayledge, half hay ad lib. She was just on hayledge, but seems to eat more with them combined. She is now just geting half a scoop of speedibeet and half a scoop of alfa oil 2x daily. She is getting through about 1xslice of big bale hayledge a day, and the same hay.
