How is his weight looking?

Hello all :)

Tont has been overweight in the past, so I'm hoping that I've finally got him down to his ideal weight.

He is a very good doer, and is living out rugged. You can feel his ribs with light pressure, which I'm very pleased with :p

So, how is he looking?

I think he's looking better from what I remember of your previous photos, but could still do with a little more off. Could he go unrugged now the weather is getting better? Don't forget that the spring grass will be beginning to come through and he may start to put it back on again. This is the time of year (end of winter) when he should be looking his slimmest. Do you tend to work him more in the summer or about the same all year?
 
He could do with a little bit more off, but I think cause he's quite a chunky built pony and he's very hairy makes him look worse. He's not doing too badly, but I think you've still got a little way to go :) I feel your pain though, was in your situation of 'winter weightloss' with my mare last year, but she's looking better this year and is a good weight :)

He hasn't been worked at all since October, but we'll soon be hacking out most days.

His crest is soft and his ribs are easily felt :)

I think he's looking not too bad at all. Its a bit difficult to tell with the photo because he's standing at a slight angle. He looks naturally deep in the girth which is fine for his type and from the back there's no obvious deep gutter or apple shape. Also if you can already feel his ribs you are definitely doing very well! Keep going though with the spring grass on his way but you are making great progress.....nice boy btw :)

Sorry, I didn't read the OP properly :rolleyes:

I suspect he's ok - and will be fine if he comes back into work by the time the spring grass becomes a problem. If he's still out of work when the grass is coming through with a vengeance, you may have a problem though :o
 
he looks fine to me, and if starting work again i would keep a lightweight or rain sheet on him for personal ease. he looks like a chunky hairy one should look like in feb. obviously monitor his weight in the next 8 weeks as the grass will start to grow!
