Michen, glad to hear I’m not alone with the ridiculous shrieking ! The pair of them were like long lost lovers ?

Honestly they were such a pain! Bear bucked and bucked and Bog screamed continuously and at one point stood on his back legs until I walloped him (thoroughly deserved) and he decided to knuckle down and do some showjumping ?. Never again.. except we’ve booked another camp for September ??

They did both get to work in the end but the behaviour beforehand.. appalling ?

Well no riding for me this weekend. I’ve just tested positive for covid ?
And to really rub salt in the wound my 31 year old pony kicked me in the leg thinking I was another pony. She was so sad after she realised what she did and to try and spin a positive on it I only got hit once, it could’ve been more and at least she can still kick her heels up. Sorry for the pity party. I’m so ready for this week to be over

The amount of empathy - or should I say, complete lack of it - for horses in a new environment, who will obviously cling to anyone familiar, and grow anxious when separated from them, because they are, you know, herd animals, is astounding.

Peglo, get well soon both COVID and kick-wise. You’ll have gone through all the colours of the rainbow before that bruise heals, I reckon.

I had a lesson today away from the yard on the baby horse. He was wonderful.
And then I did more inhand hacking with the wondercob. He enjoyed his little self. And he provided an important community service, clearing the bridle way of overhanging vegetation ?

No- I have no empathy for standing on back legs under any circumstances- and I know my horse extremely well.

But yes of course they are going to cling, there were plenty of horses there who were paired at home but ours where by far the noisiest ?

Is that a dig at my post? Uncalled for, if so, and inaccurate. You can’t reach that view validly from a few lines on a post with no other info about the situation. I completely understood where it was coming from and did my best to manage it, but I can still have my own reaction to it without that meaning I don’t care or understand what’s happening.

I think it was mine Bernster don’t worry because I was saying how appalling they were ? And probably for giving my horse a smack for standing up. But I agree as you don’t write about the other 30 minutes of quietly riding through it especially when jokingly posting on a forum!

If you're going to make this bold and "important" statement, why don't you actually address those posters you're referring too.

It's just passive aggressive otherwise.

Especially directed at Michen who is one of the most attentive and conscientious owners on the forum who clearly adores the very bones of Boggle and gives him - and gave Bear - impeccable care. IIRC Bear was bought as a sale project but ended up staying over a year longer in the role of Bog’s companion to keep Bog happy through injury?

Ouch! Hope it's not as painful as it looks!

Looking v clean AE! Good luck ?

Stangs, that's very poor form to make a comment like that, completely unnecessarily rude.

Oh heck P, that's a very impressive bruise!

Hope you're feeling better, and less sore, very soon.

Get well soon @Peglo , hope you are taking it easy.

We went and played over some SJ 90 - 95 cm on grass mid week, he was very up for it and pinging them, but controllable and happy to pull up when asked (which has been an issue previously).

On Friday hired an xc course and made the most of stuff like ditches and skinnies and water which he doesn’t get much practice at. We even did the drop jump over a big log that I definitely wasn’t going to try! He was full of beans and had a whale of a time. The brakes were still working ... all except for one time when he made an executive decision that he wanted another gallop up the hill as it was fun the first time.... so I let him!
Managed to record the lot on my new-ish chest cam (but difficult to get a decent screenshot).

The car started making a funny noise on the way home so had to cancel today’s flatwork lesson . Hopefully it will get fixed next week as I entered a dressage and sj class at the local club next weekend and need to run through my test!

Just spectating at a clinic because Chip isn't signed off yet after his attempt at DIY amputation ?

My friend brought Bernd Hackl over from Germany to give a clinic.

Have to admit I hadn't heard of him before but apparently he's very we'll known in Germany/Europe.

He's been great. I only made it today but wish I'd managed yesterday too. There's been a variety of breeds including QHs, Clydesdales, Highland and arab. It's been a split of English and western but the principles are all the same.

He's made a big difference in the day and from what I've heard a massive change from yesterday.

So yeah really inspired and all signed up for his visit next year. Nice to watch horsemanship in practice

Liking for the interesting sounding clinic, not the self harming horse ?

Lovely to read about people getting out with their horses and enjoying them, it does make me feel just a teeny bit jealous though. Having sold my little lorry I'm having to accept that my equine life has changed for good (wipes a tear from from eye!). Peglo, I hope you get over Covid and kick quickly and are not too hot in your boots! (Peglo will understand the reference). I've stopped "liking" anything that isn't a positive for the poster but I hope all the "self harming horses" are recovering well.

Ah thanks guys and AE yes at one point Bear was hanging around purely for Bogs rehab turnout benefit.. very expensive pet but worked out well in the end!!

Such a lovely weekend with them all, these times are very special. And I shocked myself jumping 100 fences XC schooling today and actually enjoying it! Would have liked to have done a little more but firm ish ground and I’m very conscious how many fences they end up jumping at these camps….I’m always the first to bow out of each lesson but he is doing a lot at the moment between camps and eventing and even without that.. he’s precious (or I’m pathetic and should work him harder ?)

Nova went over her first pole! Such a small achievement compared to others but the little mare has (obviously) never seen them before so I thought after a little light lunge (I was expecting fireworks and barely got a lit match. It took her a while to understand the concept) I’d take her over a single pole so I can then start incorporating in-hand poles into our routine. She didn’t dare go near it for a few minutes, then ballooned over it and then stepped over it nicely so I left it there.

She’s really settling in and I honestly just fall more and more in love with her every day. 28005AD0-1F04-4A70-A71A-843272F5F5B0.jpeg
