How long have you had to wait for insurance payout?

I finally found a company to insure my older horse with a decent level of illness cover as opposed to none at all, at a good price.
I then realised it was underwritten by E&L ( 😫 )
However it was pretty much that or nothing so I carried on with it.
Horse had a minor operation and few nights in hospital. Bill came to £780.
I put in a claim and on each chasing call made they said it was being finalised.
It's taken them about 5 months to pay. It's still not completely cleared but I think that's due to a mistake on an invoice and am trying to clear that up with the vets.
I had to pay my excess £160 and livery £45 they have accepted liability for the rest.
Is 5 months normal?!! It seems rediculous to me and I've been in slight panic for all this time!

I'm insured with e & l, they paid out about the same amount quite quickly,in fact what held up my claim was vet being slow to complete paperwork

I've usually had the cheque from KBIS within a week or so of sending in the bill, tends to go direct to the vet. what a PITA for you OP.

Was 2003 so don't remember but I remember it went smoothly and once SEIB had all the info, it was paid toute suite.

I have now just put claim in again 2017 and early stages, as we still need to get another blood test when I get home in 2 weeks.

Never had prob with SEIB so I am sure it will go as it has before.

I don't worry about time, as long as it is being dealt with in a productive way.

My first and only claim so far with KBIS took about 3.5 weeks earlier this year, which I'm led to believe is very slow for them.

5 months is a very long tome, IMO!

I waited so long with NFU once that one of the vets and the transport company that had taken her to hospital were threatening to sue me.

well Petplan queried the invoice because we had two claims going at the same time and the get didn't split the invoice, so that might have taken about 6 weeks to sort, but for the rest of it they would pay within a week or two.

all got a bit confused, as I made about 6 claims during the year, and some times they'd pay me and other times they paid the vet direct!! so I ended up having to keep a spreadsheet of what was paid!! and luckily I did because the vets changed their system half way though and lost track of some of the payments and thought I still owed them money!! very stressful

If you are talking about 5 months from them having the full information then yes that is quite long. Otherwise it may be the vets have not provided correct information and that was holding things up.

If they (insurer) haven't kept you in the loop properly I would suggest writing to their complaints manager and asking for a breakdown as to how long it has taken and what the delays were.

E and L took about 5 months on my claims as well but I suppose at least it did get paid in the end.

I know they have a bit of a reputation for not being great but to be fair I have had 4 claims with them and they paid all of them without any problems but they were very slow.
