How long is your commute to horse from home?

As it says really! For those who pay for livery on a yard or rent etc etc! Wondering if 25 min journey is doable. For two trips a day that's nearly two hours of driving! it's just that I've heard this field is only £1 a day per horse and it's normally livery costs where I am but currently I'm only 7 mins away!!!

15 miles away but I only go once a day. Its half an hour each way.

I live in a rural area though, its one of the closest to me with the facilities I wanted.
 
I was fifteen minutes away from my livery yard but only went once a day. Now its either a few minutes walk down or a minute in the car depending on my mood :D (just showing off, sorry)
 
Apparently this farmer has acres and acres of land with he manages for you. He just wants it to be put to some use hence low cost!
 
I'm really lucky, yard is only 5 minutes drive from our house. Horse is on full livery so only go down once a day.
 
35 -40 minutes in heavy traffic. Around 25-30 mins in lighter traffic. Around five mins less from partners home. Moving to a different yard in another locality would be a major drawback for both my partner and I because the locality is ideal for both of us as it is near his work and on the way home from mine (at present) and near his brothers whom he often visits on the way to/from the yard (he babysits the dog!).

Partner also helps me quite a lot at the yard or will hack with me after work so he likes the location also.

From work at the end of the day is 10 minutes, and back to home (or to yard on a weekend) is 15-20 minutes.
I go once a day in the week and twice a day at weekends.
 
Mine take me less than 5 mins, I can walk there in 20 mins

I moved my mare once, to a yard which was 20 mins away, it was very annoying! only stayed there a few months before moving back!

is there anything else there? Storage, lighting, stables? or is it just fields? what is the fencing like? can you put up electric if the acres and acres is too much for your horse?

I rent from a farm, who is very laid back about what I do there, but he also doesn't do any maintenance, so I have to sort the fencing out when it rots and breaks etc
 
I once kept my horse at a lovely yard but it was diy and took 20 minutes to drive there. Had to go twice a day. We only stayed four months as it was just too far.

Now I drive three miles, only takes a few minutes to get there. I can walk there if I need to (bad snow in winter or before I learnt to drive if I missed last bus on Sundays)
 
I would never go for it unless I'd met the land owner and also the lady who keeps her horses on his land. I'm the sort to ask a million upfront questions....I'd soon smell a rat if the answers were side stepped or didn't add up lol x
 
I live 22 miles away from my mare. summer isn't too bad in the winter twice a day sometimes can get a bit of a struggle. but again rural area x
 
I have one horse in a field 20 minutes from home, and 2 horses at a DIY livery yard 10 minutes from home/ 15 minutes from the other horse. It's doable but I do spend alot of time in my car. Fortunately my sister helps with the 2 at the livery yard a few mornings a week :-)
 
Apparently he maintains the fields I.e. Tops them, rolls them etc. We have to provide tape and fencing if needed as its all wooden rail and post but very large areas. Not sure about shelter yet. He provides hay from his farm. Wouldn't go for it unless I could put in a field shelter. Might not go for it anyway!
 
Half an hour unless the traffic is particularly bad, a bit less very early on a weekend morning. And an hour and a half from work in the evening. I only do it once a day though.
 
In addition to my other post, my yard is only 5 miles from my home and 3.5 miles from my work place but takes me 15-20 mins from home and 10-15 mins from work because it is all busy urban roads with loads of traffic lights so that really slows me down.

I dont mind the drive as I only live 4 miles from Birmingham City Centre so feel very lucky that there is a livery yard just 5 miles in the other direction.
You can just about see the city centre in the distance from our hack the other day.

First yard was 5 mins away, DIY.
Second was 20 mins away, also DIY.
Current yard is 45-60 mins away, full livery. I'm actually spending the same amount of time driving as I was at the second yard as I don't have to go 2x a day or even 1x a day if I don't want to!

Each yard has their own pros and cons but moving so far was certainly worth it in my case as there's no off road hacking in my area, but the new yard is straight onto a common, has a beach a 20 min hack down bridlepaths (no roads at all! :D), and a bigger beach about an hour away, also with no roadwork.
 
I've just moved from a yard that was 7 minutes drive from home and same for work (my job is literally on my doorstep) to a yard with better facilities that is a 20-30 minute drive depending on traffic.

I was umming and arring about the move due to the extra driving but it is such a lovely yard that it's worth it.

I am going twice a day until I can arrange services.

So far so good
 
I live in a town, 20mins is the very closest yard to my house and it's not an problem whatsoever. I consider it very close to home!! It takes longer just to drive across the other side of town.
 
I live 23 miles, or 35 mins in the car (no traffic).. There are probably 25-30 yards that are closer, but this one is 20 mins from work (North whereas I live West from work, so creates a triangle shaped journey all in all) but I absolutely love it. It's a good price, lovely people, facilities and hacking that I wanted, the YO is an absolute gem, so I wouldn't move if you paid me. I go once a day.
 
My horse is in a full livery yard. I travel 25-30 minutes from work and 40-50 minutes from home. It's a bit of a hassle, but totally worth it, and I've traveled even longer to different yards. :) I have a few yards that are very close to my home and I could go there in 10mins by bike, but, unfortunately, those are high-stress and drama filled places I wouldn't want to keep my horse in. Our current yard is lovely and I gladly travel farther knowing my boy is safe and loved there.
 
I suppose you need to sum the the amont of livery you save with the fuel costs and time doing this (working shorter hours etc.) also hiring facilities if there isnt any there and are they withing hacking distance or will it be more fuel costs? Will you e the only person there? If not maybe you could share duties with somone else requiring you to only go once a day saving you commuting time/costs for a few moments checking someone elses horse/s. Im sure you could make it work for you however it might take some time settling in.

I keep my horse 5min in one directing and then i loan a horse 10 minutes in the other direction (it is very annoying but the owner helps with livery fees), both DIY so i commute for about a hour each day when visiting both twice a day, although it is rare that we go to both twice a day as there is many people around at the yards willing to pop the horses in/out meaning we can just go the once to muck out bring in/out mine and someone elses
 
Yard is 2.2 miles away by road (about 4 mins in the car) or 1.8 miles (or 20-30minutes) if I walk / run across the fields. I sometimes do this in the summer if I need to save time and walk the dog / go for a run / check the horses all at the same time. Work is 4 miles the other way so I can easily pop to the yard from work at lunchtime as well if I need to. I know I'm lucky to be so close but I wouldn't consider being any further away. I have a demanding job and a busy life and, regardless of the fuel costs, my time is worth more than any financial saving I'd make by being further away. If I had full livery I might consider another 4 or 5 miles but it would have to be perfect for that (and it's unlikely to happen anyway!)
 
Yard is 4 miles away, can take 10 mins or can take 40 (yes, 40!!) depending on if you hit rush hour traffic.
Chose this one for how local it is as there's a cheaper yard that is straight onto the New Forest for hacking that's 30 mins away, but just don't think I can deal with 2 hours of commuting a day again after last time.
 
Mine is diy, but not a livery yard as four of us share the lease. Can drive there in 2 minutes, and its in the right direction of work. Not perfect all the time (don't start me off, could write a book) but I know I am very lucky.
