I was wondering how long people generally take to muck out a stable
I’ve been offered 2 stables on full livery
One horse will be kept for free 70 a week including bedding and haylage
But I have to muck out all the horses once a day
10 horses
I’m doing two college courses and have a part time job
Unsure if it’s worth it

I think it depends how clean the horses are and what type of bedding.

my pony is generally clean bedded on straw and takes 10 mins if that but I know my friends horse is dirty and takes twice that.

So would you have to muck out 10 horses every day in exchange for free livery for 1 horse and pay £70 for second horse?

How long is a piece of string?
What are they bedded on - straw? Shavings etc ? Day beds? Deep litter?
how far away is the muck heap? How big is the wheel barrow you’d be using?
Do you have to do water buckets too? Put hay in? Sweep the yard?
Sawdust in pretty much all day
Litter depends on horse
Unsure on muck heap haven’t viewed yard yet but it’s a small enough yard so couldn’t be far
No just muck

I can't see it working at all from what you've described - 10 horses are a lot, plus college plus working. It would be a hard no from me!

It would work out cheaper to hire a freelance groom most likely if you need more help with your own?
It would probably be cheaper but unfortunately don’t have my own stables

€70 a week is cheap for full livery. Mucking out 10 a day you’d be wanting €25 a day for that, €150 a week, they are definitely having a laugh
It’s the general price around where I live bar one place that is 100 but they have an indoor
Thank you for the advice tho it doesn’t seem feasible or a good deal unfortunately

I briefly had a job where I had to turn out about 15 horses (not single-handedly… so make that about 7 or 8), sweep yard, and muck out 15 horses on shavings, all between the hours of 730 and 1030. I did not last long.

On average, it takes me an hour to muck out, hay, and water my two horses. If I beast it, I can do it in 45 minutes. If I faff a lot, it takes longer.

I do my own five - feed, muck out, hay and water - in an hour. But it's my yard that I'm familiar with and my beds. I loathe anyone else mucking out my stables - they always do it wrong!'

Depends on where I am and what I am mucking out. At work it's 5mins a stable tops. On shavings just mucking out, no extras. Snow shovels are great for this! At home on straw it could be 5 mins or it could be 2 hours depending on how much procrastinating I am doing ??

Katie… no frikkin way! I would however do it for £35 per week. That means your getting one free horse and your still contributing. Basically would be diy including your hay or haylage! 10 horses is a lot! Then your two! Crikey…
Would be 10 horses including mine but yeah too much work definitely
Are two of the ten you muck out your horses?

Ok so muck out 8 stables, and get one box rent and consumables free. And pay £70 for rent and consumables for other box per week.

Still not a great deal. But better as you can’t include mucking your own horses out in the deal.

Below minimum wage though I think.

I can hay and thorough skip out, (remove wet) out 5 on shavings in half an hour. Including sweep, bit of a tidy up.
Thats with auto drinkers and on an open easyard and I don’t need to walk back and forth to muck heap.

it took me 45 mins to turn out, properly muck out, fill nets and fill water for MY one on straw at my old yard ?

it all depends on your yard layout as well how long it takes, yours doesn’t sound worth the hassle from what you’ve said!
