A friend of a friend found a parson russell terrier last Monday ie a week ago. She has advertised everywhere but has had no response and vet scanned but no microchip. He is a real handsome wee dog (well I've only seen pics) and vets estimate about 2-3 years old. The day he was found was a bank holiday here and this is a real holiday spot and loads of daytrippers were around so there is a realistic chance he was dumped. Now person who found him and is currently minding him cannot keep him as she has loads of dogs and is tight on space. How long realistically do you think before he could be rehomed given that she has advertised not just locally but in a few national papers too and there has been no response. The reason we ask is that I am interested in meeting him to consider offering him a home but don't want to confuse the poor wee dog by rehoming him and then an owner turning up. Current minder can give him another week but will really have to consider the pound after that as she is stretched to the limit with her current animals. So any thoughts as to how long before she could consider handing him over to a home or would she be better to just go to the pound and not get involved in homing him (to me or anyone else!)

Dont send him to the pound its usually a one way ticket.

Much better to try the Dogs Trust, It might be worth asking the police if it is alright to rehome him to you. I presume she has tried dogslost and contacted dogs homes etc to see if he has been reported missing.

South East & Parson type Russell...Like I say I haven't even met him yet! Nearest rescue has a horrrendously bad reputation...pound with a 7 day limit would be the kinder option sadly! Other nearer rescues are swamped at the moment. That is a good idea about asking police about right to rehome. he is a bit underweight but in alright condition. No vets in a 25mile radius have heard of a similar dog missing

Are there any hunting/fieldsports organisations/forums in case he has bogged off whilst working? Did you try Donedeal in case someone has listed him missing?

The person who found him has contacted all the local hunts and pics circulated through the hunt email systems. I have just checked all the above links and nothing matching him. He is def not local to the village as owners would be well aware of where he is. The fact that there is no record with any vet in the radius makes them wonder was he dumped:-( If I meet him and we click I am more than happy to give him a home but I am very cautious of going down this route to early both to avoid confusion to the dog if owners do turn up but also to avoid the potential personal heartache if that happened. we'll just have to wait and see I guess!

Christ just having a nose at some websites, one place in the NW has had to close through lack of funding and another has had to stop taking in dogs as all kennels and fosters are full :( this is a bloody shitstorm and people are still churning out pups :( :( :(

I would hang on to him!

Yup and the reputation of our nearest place is so bad I wouldn't leave Bin Laden & Hitler in their care! Will keep you posted...I won't rush at anything but may tentatively meet him and see how we get on!
