For jobs or or things you want amongst your friends or neighbours. We have on occasions done this and it has worked out well for both sides. A friend did work on our wagonett and we paid in hay bales, i house/horse sat for them and his wife tought me to drive and got me through my test (She a driving instucter). A farmer friend is going to help OH to concrete a stable floor in return he will give him a hand when he needs it . the onley down side to this is our accountant tells us of for doing it

. If you have a skill or somthing else you could exchange would you, do you ??

all the time - well my OH does actually or if it's something I really want I will do it!! can't very harm to try.
I dont see any harm in what your all doing, i think its actually very nice to have people around like that, it's not all about the money these days, just good old friends that lend a hand and vice a versa

Yup! My friend is clipping Genie all winter in return for a rug and some leg wraps, both of us feel we're getting the best end of the deal! We've also rug swapped etc.

All the time. No one we know really has any money that isn't spent on non barterable stuff like bills, diesel, building matrials etc so we readily trade labour, expertise, home grown food, animal care etc. EG my neighbour gave us all the roof timber for our stables from his plantation that suffered in the hurricane and we supplied the wire (from our huge stash of building materials) and my OH wired up his all his outside lights.

Yes, all the time.

Zeus covered a mare for 200 bales of hay

Allow hunting in our forest for deer and turkey for the freezer.
Swapped a pony for 2 weeks camp for 2 years for daughter ($3000 worth of camp)
Horse for fencing.
A puppy for half a side of beef and another puppy for four lambs.
Months livery for some plumbing work.

Sadly can't find anything the Vet or farrier want to barter for

No, I don't like the idea of bartering for professional or skilled services. Its all very well if things don't go wrong or you don't fall out with people, but if you do, it would be an utter mess. Swapping rugs and things yes.

I hasten to add that the Vet/Farrier barter was merely a quip

I expect to pay cold, hard cash for their professional services.

Years ago, newly divorced and penniless, I paid for extensive internal building work done on my tiny little terraced house entirely with tiger heads painted in oils on chocolate brown velvet as the canvas. Brill!
