Just wondering how many poeple travel there horses with/without boots. I got thinking this morning and after having a chat with a few people realised that most people I know dont put them on their horse(s).

Fleur will only currently travel in brushing boots. Anything bulkier (bandages or boots) and she can't stay balanced falls over or simply removes them (the hard way!)

Dan always travels in boots though. Through choice I would always use them as I think they give that extra protection but Fleur more likely to damage herself wearing them than if not!

Well I would always travel with them for added protection as my mare used to rip her legs open when she travelled. She used to have to be bandaged then travel boots over the top.
I wonder how many people just dont for whatever reason whether it be ease, laziness or like you has a reason for not using them

Maiden always has boots on all round, but she won't wear travel boots on her hind legs as she kicks the hell out of whatever is behind her and can't stand up properly. Therefore she has travel boots in front, and Prolite boots with over-reach boots behind (as the Prolites cover more of her legs than "normal" brushing boots). My friend's horse will not wear travel boots at all, it's more hassle than it's worth to put them on him and *touch wood* he's not damaged himself yet. But personally, I will always try everything I can first before deciding not to use them.

Is there any reason for that?

Well Peter has never had boots on in the lorry, and when we have tried him with them he just messes about, we have never had any bad experiences with him not wearing them. All other horses i have had have all had some sort of boot on for travelling, Peter just being different!

No I never travel any of my horses with boots on. They travel loose and it would be a danger to put any kind of tack or boots on them when travelling them.

Never..however mine don't have shoes on so less danger of that sort of injury. If I'm showing then they have bandages on to keep their legs clean..

I pretty much always travel with boots on. Just because they are there and I might as well. Plus on the way to shows it helps keep there legs clean. If I am travelling over an hour I tend to put bandages on instead to give them more support.

I do because Chex is a bad traveller and the times I haven't used them he cuts his legs - I think he stands on himself

I travel with short leg wraps on. Gen hated the large boots and afer speaking to Kelly Marks decided against using them. She said the she had seen more accidents through the big boots than without.

I don't travel with boots on either. My horse hates anything on his legs, so I never wear travel boots, brushing boots, over reaches or anything.

Also dont have shoes.

Always only ride in a snaffle and no martginales or any other gadget.

had bad experience years ago with a horse standing on a back boot and it slipped and he panicked, smashed the back ramp and the side nearly a fatality was awful, so never put boots on anything at all now

I always travel with boots or bandages, have had nasty experiences of horses damaging themselves. In particular my horse went down in the trailer after a car alarm freaked him out (parked up) he managed to go underneath the breast bar and partition and ended up on floor at the front of trailer- he walked away with just bruising but I am 100% sure that without boots it would have been alot worse.
also seem some horrible accidents when loading.

Marnie gets too hot and starts stamping and banging around and they slip if I put full travel boots on. I do travel her in brushing boots usually, they give her a bit of protection and it also makes it easier when i get to the other end and am tacking up!

QR - I ticked sometimes but in fact it's very rare that I don't travel my horses with boots. I do take care to make sure that they are used to them first and will bandage horses that don't like them.

I've seen too many "nearly" injuries that the boots on my horses have prevented!
