Looking at all the 'I'm selling......' and 'New horse is home' posts I got to wondering how many homes/owners our horses have through their lifetime and if they have travelled a lot.

All of mine seem to be on about the 3-4 owner mark. Most are Ontario bred (although ON is 7x larger than the UK, so that means zip) one is from Idaho US, and another from Quebec.

Both have had 2 owners. And wont be going anywhere.

I think I am my mare's 4th, unless anything majorly disasterous happens I shall keep her until the end.

my geldings first as homebred, but the mare well both second andfith as we sold her and bought her back some years later!

Castle has had 4 (including me), and not too sure about Ali as he was imported from Denmark, and tbh not too sure how many he's had before me either...

My horses generally either come from race or polo yards, so haven't had 'owners' as such.
Of my two polo ponies that I have at the moment the one has had 3 homes since she left polo, before she came to me.
The other polo pony was bred in Ireland, bought by a polo guy over here and then leased out to various patrons. Then bought by her groom when she was going for meat, and then I bought her!
So although they've been pillar-to-post, I wouldn't have said any of the people involved with them were ever true owners, just owners in the fact that they'd paid for them!

I hate to think how many Ty has had - seeing as he came from Ireland I have no history on him.

Truely hope that my circumstances dictate that he can grow old with me xx

Im not entirely sure with Shrimp as he came over from America as a yearling and then raced over here. If he only had one owner in American then I think I would be his 4th.

The majority of mine I bought when they were youngsters and I have generally either bought directly from the breeder or the buyer who has had them since weaning.

The old 22 year olds; I am the second owner of one and the 4th owner of the other.

The vast majority of mine have no more than 2 owners on their registry papers....however you can never be totally assured that this is the case as many people (particularly if they are not members of the breed societies) do not change the registry papers. My youngsters I am 100% sure that the names on the papers are correct though.

My poor little mare's had 2 owners since her breeder and before me - and she's 4 next week!
Plus I will be rehoming her in time, but I desperately hope that that will be her forever home, because she deserves one. I won't actually part with her unless I'm as sure as you ever can be that that's what it is...
I've spoken at length to her breeder and the person I bought her from, and she has always been much loved, so that's a good thing.

Ginga was exported from breeders to denmark, then bought back at 4 =1 owner here then us, Pip was from breeder in france. TBH I could sell them we they are no longer competive enough for me or I have a change of direction.
Ajay we bought from breeders and teddy we bought from the person after the breeders. We would not sell these as we have had them ages and they are like pets
