How many ride in a "snaffle"?

My arab is in a wilki, with flash noseband and martingale, can be ridden in a full cheek fence link but need the extra control for jumping/galloping, and when other riders get on her, id rather she be light in the mouth than her being strong and they have to pull.

My thoroughbred is in a sweet iron loose ring, as in my eyes she is still a baby and is still mouthing.

I like to see horses being ridden in a bit they go well in, for example, i'd rather see a horse in a pelham stopping when asked, rather than one being yanked in the mouth in a snaffle because it won't stop.

Bit your horse to suit it's level of training, conformation, discipline, the rider's ability :)

Absolutely!! :D

My ex-racer TB is in one of these, which is what is working best for him. He hated the action of the single jointed snaffles, and the rubber mulllen mouth was too fat for his tongue, and the Myler has been the best of the lot.

We do, because we can. Eggbutt or loose-ring with either curved mouthpiece and single joint or lozenge, and one has the revolver lozenge. All have cavesson nosebands on 'decoration' setting, because strapping their mouths shut seems a bit pointless to me - and counter-productive. They all 'go' AND stop in snaffles ;)

And for me, to see a youngster (particularly) going cheerfully and sweetly (no false outline and nose poking slightly) in minimum tack, it's a breath of fresh air.

It's far from an ideal world out there, though.

Sorry if I sound smug but my friend and I were praised on our ' minimalist tack' out hunting; both ponies in snaffles with cavesson nosebands and no martingales.

I have two driving horses right now, one in a standard Liverpool bit but the other goes great in a simple snaffle, i always believe in riding/driving in as lighter bit as possible, i tried the Snaffle mouth in a rubber mullen and he almost detroyed me :P back to the Snaffle and he's as light as a feather once again, I drive the Liverpool in Smooth cheek btw.

Two of mine are in a Snaffle, one is in a Gag. My Appy does everything (including hunting!) in a loose ring french link snaffle and my youngster is in a loose ring mullen mouth happy mouth snaffle. My mum's horse is a Dutch Gag and he goes very well in it. I know a lot of people on here hate Dutch Gags but the bit suits this particular horse and he goes very well in it, and that's all that matters. :)

Share horse 1: loose ring French link
Share horse 2: eggbut single jointed happy mouth

But also ride bitless where I can.

All 3 of mine are in snaffles.

Big beast has a loose ring peanut link for everyday and a loose ring waterford for hunting.

Middle beast has a loose ring waterford for everyday but hunts in a waterford cheltenham gag.

Little beast has a full cheek peanut link for everything.
