I got up at 6am did the horses at home inclu 4 boxes (only 1 is mine) and then cycled 30 mins to work. When I arrived the other girl I work with was there but she didn't look at all well. She said she had been up all night being sick. She helped me turn the horses out but then I told her to go home. This ment I had to do the whole yard on my own. Thats another 16 boxes and alot of them take more than oe wheelbarrow to do. Not to mention how many haynets i've filled and how much yard i've swept.
I'm shore there must be a law as to how many boxes you can muckout in one day. My body is telling me 20 is far to many boxes for one person. One of the liverys asked if I was alright doing that many boxes and I replyed "I love mucking out" I'm not so shore now ;) I'm just glad it's not my turn to do the mucking out at home :p Just gotta lunge Merryn when i've had a sit down and I think Herbs can have a day off. :)

When I go (time difference!) I'll probably have to do twenty too... and I'm pregnant :o thankfully I'll have help (someone to empty the barrow for me) and get to see the cute little foals for my troubles

The yard I'm on is completely full..there's approximately 80 & 2 ladies run the full livery side & they do 55 horses 7 days per week between 2 of them!! Plus they have to do any services the DIY's need!

Gosh SwingHorse You take care. I'm bloomin nackered and i'm not pregnant. Wish I had cute foals to look at after. I did see some cute little donkeys wondering along the road while I was cycling home :)

Ginger Bear That takes me back to when I first left school and started work at the riding school. I was there a week when the other girl quit and I had to work 6 months doing 30 horses 7days a week before the owner finaly got another groom. Those ladys have my every sympathy Today was a one off Don't fancy reliving those early years working with horses again.

I honestly don't know how they do it.. they are both so slim! They start at 9.30, feed the hay, start mucking out with a break to turn out by 11 in winter, carry on mucking out til 2-3pm, & do lunch time hay for the horses staying in inbetween at 1pm, then feeds need to be done & stables skipped out & beds put down, then horses brought in, then the feeding, watering round. Then at 7 they begin riding their own horses & finish most nights by 11pm!!! Luckily with 80 horses there is so much land that there is enough room for them all..

wow, they deserve a medal! I used to complain having 40-odd to do myself once a week (rest of the week shared with another girl). Just had to do 5 today, bliss :)

Blimey, I'm glad I dont 'do' yard cover any more, I used to do between 12 & 20 most days :o (when I was younger!) - I just did my 2 today :)
And as I'm going to pop them in the little paddock tonight as its warm(ish) & going to be reasonably dry, I'll just be poo-picking in the morning tomorrow

i rarely have to muck out or anything, i have a horse on loan. we agreed when started loaning her that i would do everything on the days i ride but its usually done by the time i get there! so i am very happy! :D

BUT do you all have to poo-pick as well? As surely with all those boxes to muck out, you haven't the time (nor energy!) to go around and poo-pick all their fields??

I have to poo pick Merryns field every otherday. He is in with another pony so we take it in turns. I did it yesterday :) The others only go out for a few hours a day so not poo picking there fields regualy at the mo just when it gets bad. Will do it every day in the summer when they are out more but then theres less mucking out :D
We don't poo pick at work. :)

lost count of how many i did today, think it was about 15. But I did 25 yesterday inc. taking out a deep litter :( We do try to poo pick daily at work, but it didnt happen yesterday due to dividing up 2 of the big stables to make 2 more stables! Luckily I dont poo pick ours at home as they have enough land to harrow & rotate it!

:D No poo picking.
My fields are self cleaning!
Every night Nature lays down another nice white carpet, when it goes then the place looks an absolute fright until I can I harrow or scrape the paddocks. I don't do poo picking - AT ALL NOW, EVER!

I've just mucked out my one but i did wash and put down 4 rubber mats in her stable haha. 20 that is alot! you deserve a sit down haha. My sister works on a big yard and she mucks out loads every day, so i'm kind of lucky i only have to do my mares stable haha.

Between two of us we did 16 boxes today, we have chucked some of the cobs out in the field for half term so there is less mucking out to be done. We have deep litters to start coming up next week and then poo picking to resume.

just 3 for me this morning, and will be 2 others this evening.
I need to get quicker again but i have just returned to full on shavings beds so i am spending far too long playing at mucking out lol rather than being practical :)

None, I have a bad back and am lucky enough to just about be able to afford to be on 5/2 livery and I have just struck a deal with a friend who is going to be mucking out my boy on the weekend in exchange for me doing evening jobs.
:D

Only one today as I'm still not allowed to stand up for very long! But as soon as I'm better I'll be back to doing 23 a day...

I don't seem to notice it anymore, and find I take longer if I'm doing one as I feel I've got more time to faff about in!
