If Ed does no work, he doesn't get anything, if I'm riding him every day he gets two feeds a day - trifling amounts but its more to make him think he's special. I really try not to overfeed him, I'd rather underfeed and hay the defecit, than the other way round.
Twice, morning and evening (I assume you mean hard feed?). Then he is out all day eating grass. Though my old boy I sometimes feed 3 times if he is looking a bit thin, fortuantely he is at where i work so it is very easy just to give him a lunch if needed.
All the horses at the yard get two feeds a day, so that no-one is left out and ends up kicking up a fuss - the ones that don't need any hard feed just get a handful of damp chaff to make them think they've been fed. Scooby's feed has been increasing with his workload, and he's slowly gone from getting a handful of chaff and a splash of beet, to that with half a scoop of pony nuts as well - morning and evening.
My girls have a large handful of hifi lite for brekkie to allow me to get the kettle on and the lamb fed before they start banging their gates to go out! They have a token feed of hifi lite to take their supps at night when I put them to bed. A bag of Hifi lasts me 2 months with a Fell and a Welshie!
When they are in over the winter (Dec to end of Feb/March) they get 2 a day with hay. When they go out 24/7 they get hay if needed and go to one a day (evening but that is more for my convience than any other reason) and then when the grass starts growing they just get their supplements - Formula 4 Feet and ulcer meds.
I should say that mine both get a fibre based diet - no mixes or cereals of any kind.
Ours are out 24/7 they have as much haylage as they want and are fed once a day, in the evenings but thats because its convenient.
Our young horse who is in 24/7 is getting 3 small feeds a day but he is a hatrack and needs it. Being a Welsh Cob next year he will probably be on a diet! Weve only had him a week and are being careful not to over do it.
Ponies and AA mare are not fed, but have pretty much ad lib haylage. In the summer AA mare will go back to being a competition horse and be fed according to her workload by her rider. Ponies will be out 24/7 and not fed.
Horses are fed twice a day atm with again pretty much ad lib haylage. In the summer it is unlikely that they will be fed as they will be out 24/7, it depends on whether they are managing to keep a sensible weight on the work they are doing.
Once a day and at night after exercise she has a small handfull of high fibre nuts and a single handfull of chaff to get her supplements down ( all purpose vitamin and mineral supplement and premier flex joint supplement)
She has ad lib hay overnight while she is stabled but has it double netted to slow her down.
My lad has three handfuls of hi fi lite to put his supplement into and he has that amount for two meals morning and night. I will probably cut that down to once per day when the grass starts growing.
Ours get 4 a day. they get 1/4 round scoop alfa A and 1/4 mix in each feed. skinny boys get slightly more. when fitter mix increases
All have adlib hay/haylage mix. t/o is restricted at this time of year but if they are in field they either miss a feed or have it when they come in depending on time. We don't hay in field but they have grass to chew on
If they are out on hol, nothing unless they need something once a day for weight
Kacey gets 3 feeds a day and 2 hay nets at night. I prefer to give out 3 reasonable sized feeds rather than 1 huge feed at
dinner then she wont eat her hay at night.... A morning feed, dinner feed, and supper!
