How many times a day do you visit your horses?

When I had my horses on DIY I went down twice, sometimes 3 times a day (dependant on turning out/ bringing in) but now he is on Part Livery I only go down in the evenings & normally all day at the weekends!

I do my horses morning and night [unless there is a real reason why I can't do them] and special reasons as well so if they need bathing for a show or if I am going to ride.

Apart from that they are turned out in a field and aren't going to want me there annoying them when they arre tying to eat

Twice a day morning to feed, turnout, muck out, get hay nets filled for evening, get feed ready for evening, then back to ride, groom, etc & put to bed but as I share with my friend we do sometimes share the work ie: friend does morning turnout and her stable and I do evening shift, seems to work very well.

I try to ALWAYS do the outside horses morning and night myself - because they ONLY get seen twice (unless they're coming in for something) I feel it's important to do that myself. The stabled horses are fed by the staff in the morning and evening, and of course they're all exercised - ridden or loose schooled during the day; but I tend to go around them all at lunch-time, and also do late night check, hays and waters every night about 11.30 pm.

At least 3 times a day for the boys, the girls are living out still, so I check them once a day, but they are all at home, so I drive past the girls every time I go out/come home.
My 3 year old stallion is only out for about 2 hours a day, so I have to skip him out a few times during the day otherwise he is REALLY DIRTY!!!

At least twice a day.

I think at least twice a day is essential, brought it home to me in the summer when in the morning visit ( he was in a field a walk away from the house ) I found him with swollen gammy eye, which meant I could promptly treat, if I had left it to the evening then treating would have been delayed and everthing would have been closed. And imagine if it had been a worse sinareo such as an open bleeding wound.

Can you diy liverys that live away from the horse not arrange with the others who share their field that you will cheak theres in the morning if they cheak yours in the evening?

Usually twice a day because I don't trust the grooms.

Ouch! Maybe you need new grooms! I very rarely have cause to complain that my staff haven't spotted something - or HAVE spotted it and failed to act correctly, or at least report it to me promptly!

But then I do ENCOURAGE them to be vigilant and report ANYTHING they think might be not quite right - and praise them for spotting the little things! The only reason I prefer to do the outside horses myself is that there are a LOT of them - and as they're only seen twice a day it's best the same person does it (makes it easier to spot the 'little things' before they become big things!)

A minimum of twice a day (which I am not really happy with)

Usually 3 times and sometimes depending on my daughters college hours and how many she needs to ride 4 times.

I worry about them all the time and wish i had them at home.

I go three times a day, once a 6 a.m. to feed/turnout and muck out, on my way home from work at 4 p.m. to bring them in with a little hay and beds still up, then back at 5.30 to skip out/put beds down/fresh bedding/fill haynets/top water/feed and put pyjamas on, I do that every day of the year come rain/shine/snow/hail/rail and I wouldn't have it any other way - I like things done my way and just couldn't trust anyone else to care for my babies the way I do, that's no disrespect to all those that do full livery but just my personal choice.

I couldn't agree more!!!! They're really really rubbish. Honest, no exaggeration. Don't even muck out every day which is why I do it myself.

Ours don't spot anything. I have to keep pointing out that a horse hasn't got water, or has a great BIG fat LEG that is oozing something that looks worryingly like joint fluid from the fetlock

I'd be much better off on DIY... which is essentially what I'm doing at the moment.

I work in the City. Mine are on full livery and are checked 2 - 3 times a day.

I am very jealous of all those who can check on your horses personally. One day maybe I will be able to, too.

This is really interesting and makes me feel a bit better as i think i have OCD! Mine are normally seen 4x a day sometimes more! turnout etc 7am, fetch one in mid afternoon (mum often does this). Others come in around 4-5pm in winter then put all to bed. Late check 9pm ish for skip out and hay/water. I can't reiterate enough the importance of checking them as much as you can as i've caught colic early several times and a bad cut.

Usually once a day, but we three at the yard share duties so they get "seen to" at least twice. I've started going up twice a day as my horse needs a lot doing to her and I don't feel it's a fair exchange of duties for me to be sharing checking one friend's horse in the evenings, in return for said friend feeding, haying and rugging mine every single morning! I always go at least once a day myself though

At my old yard, due to the routine, it would be three times a day as they needed to come in early in the winter up the road before it got dark, then put to bed later. It was a pain! I much prefer having them out 24/7 (unless it's foul weather but no roads to contend with at new yard!)
