... and how many years is that in?

Inspired by another thread I thought I'd count up. Had mine for fifteen and a half years, and I've come off him four times (and every time he's gone straight home). The last time was about ten years ago, three riders, one girl fell off in front of us when we were going flat out, I remember a slow motion fall... and then I woke up, as did the other girl. The only one who'd stayed on pulled up at the end and started to say 'fab gallop' as two riderless horses stopped next to her! My boy was then kicked, he went missing for a few hours, and both riders were concussed. Some day that was...

I thought you had to fall off at least 7 times before you were a proper rider, in which case I'm nearly Olympic standard:)

One of them 6 times in 4 years but I most of those were my fault for having too much port before hunting :)

The other 3 times in as many months lol little buggar :)

The two we have now? Never, but then one hasn't been backed yet and the other has only been lightly backed by my son :p. My last horse I only came off once in 2 years but it was a quite good one, the one before him once in six years and that was more a slide over the shoulder  In my ridden career though I have come off enough times to disprove the '100 falls to make a rider' adage because if it were true I would have represented GB in at least 4 Olympics by now. :D

Only once in a year - dismounting i caught my body protector on the knee roll and landed on my bum! Hardly a fall!
Although i fell off a friend's pony that i borrowed for pc camp 17 times in a week - got a trophy for it :D

My current horse - once in five years, his standard spin that I wasn't expecting because he hadn't done it in so long
Previous one - never in 6 years
one before that - every time I rode for at least 2 months (when I changed his exercise routine, he was sold soon after!)

This horse I've had for a year now and parted company with 3 times... so far - for some reason I'm finding him very hard to stick to :o:o

First when he took a dislike to a saddle that we were trying and I was deposited at the saddlers feet

second I still can't work out what caused it but I ended up with a broken wrist after he reared and we toppled over, this was only a day after the first fall

and the third comedy one was over xmas when we met a donkey for the first time - he whipped round to run away from it and I was left still facing the other way, landed on my feet though :):D

Owned the arab for 14 years now. Never fallen off him once BUT have had some nasty accidents with him on the ground. Just leading him, kicked in the knee..trashed ligaments...kicked in the head...scarred for life...I'm safer in the saddle!!

Fallen from my gelding 6 times since he was backed 3 1/2 years ago. 3 of those were when he went through a phase of discovering how powerful his back end is ;) 1 from a road accident, 1 from something biting him and him spontaneously leaping 500ft in the air, and 1 from us taking different directions after a jump......the latter slightly embarassing I must say!

Fallen off my mare more times than I can count in 7 1/2 years but everytime my fault - she is a gem and never puts a foot wrong :)

I haven't come off current cob yet. That's in just shy of three years. She has broken my foot though and double barrelled me in the stomach :)

Not answering for fear of jinxing myself! Needless to say I have fallen off many many more times than the 7 it allegedly takes to make a rider over the years I have been riding.

1 pony 3 times
1 horse never
Second horse twice, one time was a bail out to stop hitting a tree when we were being attacked and chased by a dog out hacking
Third horse, several times, he was a bit of a lad, but when you got him working he could turn it on :D

3 times on a year and a half of current loan.
1. Out hacking opening a gate. Horse doesn't like them that much as they snap back and slam shut, and one I was opening she backed away from while I kept hold of the gate...
2. Warm up for SJ at ode, she stopped without reason and I went out the side door.
3. Bucked off XC schooling after cantering through water.

Nearly been jumped off a few times mind, but she's always caught me underneath her or slowed down/ stopped to let me get my balance :)

I've come off my TB about 6 times in 9 years, 2 of those times I landed on my feet and kept hold of him! The other times he's p!ssed of leaving me in the dirt!

I haven't come off my new one.......yet!!

Someone said to me the other day about me not falling off very often so who want's to put money on me falling off within the next week or so!?!

Touching wood as we speak ha ha I have had Larry 5 years in March I have fallen off once, up until that point I had not fallen of for about 10 year's lol Damn you larry ha ha

Over 25 years of ridding now and lost count.

As a kid it was weekly but when I stopped bouncing I think I was not as daring.

Last time I came off was when I was mounting! Impressive. :)

I probably hold the world record, I have come off a sharp/spooky 5 year old about 35 times in the last 12 months, the last time he dumped me in the sea, not pleased about that ! plus 3/4 times off another 5 year old and probably once or twice off my mare so about 40 times in the last year but luckily I know how to fall ! roll down the shoulder is the best method.

BH- ( who I rebacked at five and have had for three years) I have fallen off once. And one time he fell over with me on him but frankly that does not count :p

Nitty- (who I backed at four and have had for three years but only one of those ridden) has reared over backwards with me once and I have fallen off her once. So she is beating BH hands down when it comes to ditching me

I have fallen of countless times though. I used to back yearlings so it was semi regular :D

Current horse, owned for 2.5 months, fell off 1.5 times :p
(half a time as I technically wasnt fully on yet :p )

Previous horses... I cant count that high ;)

Last time I came off was when I was mounting! Impressive. :)

I've done that too :o Used to exercise a pony for someone, he was such a dude. One day I decided to ride him back to his field bareback, vaulted on....and fell straight off the other side :o Thankfully no one saw me :o

I had not fallen off for 13 years!!! My last girl, a green ex racer I had for 5 years and I didn't fall off her which was a miracle as I came close to it several times! The current horse iv'e owned for 3 years and fallen off twice which is ironic as he is a lot quieter than the other horse.

First time he spooked sideways, it's normally the sort of thing I would sit without thinking but I wasn't concentrating he just caught me and I flopped off the side lol. I was very relived to have fallen off and not hurt at all as I really thought after 13 years I was cruising for a massive bruising!
2nd time was jumping. We got a god awful stride into a fence and he went to take off, I went to the side and it was just one of those things..

'No Gut's No Glory, No Falls No Ball's' I say!!! :D

I've had my mare for 3 years in May and have fallen off her about 15 times ish. Quite a lot of the time they aren't proper 'falls', more like unplanned dismounts where I land on my feet ;)

The only dramatic one was when I'd only had her a month or so and she decided she didn't want to do a circle and shot off in the opposite direction at a gallop and did a huge buck and I landed head first onto a big piece of slate. Ended up in hospital in a neck brace and had to have about 10 different X-rays! She was forgiven for that though as it later turned out she had a sore back.

I have been riding about 10 years now and have fallen off a few times from other people's horses but on the whole I have developed quite a sticky bum due to some of the moves Bella can throw when she wants to :D

Twice in 14months, first time couple of months after getting him, he jumped funny and unseated me then set off bucking. Second time was getting on he walked off must of caught him with my foot didn't even get in the saddle and he set off bucking like mad and I went flying a fair distance. Instructor was quite amused when she turned up and found out I'd already fallen off!

Other pony I lost count after about 15 have had him 6 1/2 years but been out on loan for a year.
